and this is yet another offshoot of this coup that when i try to explain to most people, they will first say, “they can’t do that” or “they wouldn’t do that” then ask where my tin foil hat is.

The Trump-Musk administration is flagging NSF grants for cancellation that contain the words “female,” “woman,” or “women,” but NOT flagging those that contain “male,” “man,” or “men”

For the layperson out there… All the Biden era climate law grant money was supposed to be released today under a court order. Trump’s DOJ today said it complied with that order. Former EPA official who handled said climate money says that’s not true.

It's pretty wild to me that Democrats are still talking about confirmation hearings and stuff when, like, the government just got handed to Elon Musk. Who gives a shit about regular procedure now? You should be storming the White House. Fucking nip this shit in the bud.

If Musk is allowed to just shut down agencies we are -- in effect -- an electoral autocracy. We elected Congress, and if Congress' law is invalidated by an unelected plutocrat, there is no popular sovereignty/supremacy muse.jhu.edu/article/17201

It’s all fun and games until Congress doesn’t get their direct deposit and musk tries to pay them in meme coins.

Shall we be dragged by him to the bottom of the sea? Shall we be towed by him to the infernal world?

Art is what helps us through every other fucking thing.

To say that he was my favorite filmmaker would be an understatement. It’s no exaggeration that for me personally, the fact that I got to be alive for 35 years on this planet while David Lynch walked the earth and made art is only akin to sharing oxygen with a literal prophet (1/15)

Did your child lose their book collection in the Los Angeles fires? Are you a teacher at a school that lost its library or your classroom library? Whether you need one book or a whole library, we can replace your books. 📚 Everyone else, please boost this post so we can connect with those in need. 🙏

I don't think it was pain that made him so great, I think painting brought him whatever happiness he had. * RIP David Lynch

You’ll probably see this screenshot floating around a lot but it really was wonderful to see Lynch put a scene in Twin Peaks: The Return where he has his character literally stare at the camera and say that you should either support trans people or die. I needed to hear that in 2017

I remember my parents going to a Twin Peaks party…probably for the S1 finale?…when I was 6. I didn’t know what the show was, but I knew they were engrossed. Guests brought logs, coffee, cherry pie.

All of the rhetoric about unaccountable bureaucrats (who are actually very accountable) while we give more and more policymaking power to actually unaccountable judges

I saw Brett Kavanaugh at the US Capitol last week and went to Macy’s and passed by a Johnny Depp cologne ad. So much for the idea that accusations alone can ruin a man’s life forever.

Ohhhhh my god china is going to steal my data? should we tell Kaiser Permanente? Should we throw a party?should we invite ticketmaster

This coming the same day as the special counsel’s report is a helluva thing. For history and all. www.wsj.com/world/asia/s...

okay, so, the thing is, being contrarian makes you *more* susceptible to propaganda, not less, in the same way bottomless cynicism does. you’ll grasp for any straw you can find that supports an alternative narrative.

One of the affects in living in the anthropocene is that most people simply do not believe in the idea of natural forces beyond our control and power anymore.

Always remember it didn’t take social media to make the Satanic Panic. Or the Red Scare, or the Lavender Scare, or

<smashing through wall with fire axe> to who, Bill, <checks notes> THE HUMAN TORCH???

On another note, if you know how to read script the National Archives could use your help transcribing documents because it’s apparently a skill that is going away since we don’t rely on handwriting much in the modern day. www.usatoday.com/story/news/n...

When is the last time Meta generate a great product that it did not purchase (Instagram and Whatsapp)? Threads could not manage a basic Twitter knock-off and the Metaverse is a punchline.

the uncontrollable male urge to respond to a complaint about a certain type of behavior by "ironically" performing said behavior

Streaming in 2010: You can watch an entire catalog of amazing movies and TV shows for a reasonable monthly fee Streaming in 2025: our library is Batman movies and 28 seasons of a Tim Allen sitcom, it costs $159/month. We just destroyed the last piece of evidence that Mister Rogers ever existed

Also jarring to me that we've never had any real collective mourning in the USA. More than a million Americans have died of Covid and, barring some very isolated moments, there's been no sense of coming together to mark the incalculable loss. No events. No monuments. Etc.

Bernie Sanders is open to voting to confirm RFK Jr.

“Don’t be so in thrall to someone on the internet!” is v helpful life advice

I'm always at a loss for words when a complete stranger asks me "Will I like it? I'm worried that I won't like it." I have no idea! And this is very low-stakes!

I've never once seen a china shop, how do these bulls keep finding them

"King Charles should dissolve Parliament," a novel idea nobody in English history has considered before.

I can't get my brain round proper great movies being so old. A film like Duck Soup shouldn't be 92 years old. That's too long ago! It's twisting my melon, man.

not even 2025 yet lol

Once again, the institutions are not self-enforcing: bsky.app/profile/mcop...

santa claus: boring, predictable, in Coke ads ded-moroz (grandfather frost): was once the ancient and evil god morozko who could freeze armies, got sanitized into soviet santa claus/give or take, still wears a horned helm and consorts with the elements

The answer to most of what is causing angst online and off is that people have been driven completely insane by the last decade-plus, that’s pretty much it

can we all take a moment to just bask in the glow of what a sincerely awful month one of the worst people alive has had

Literally, he has already done this, once, when empowered. The consequences then were 83 deaths and 1,867 hospitalizations, mostly of children and infants. This did nothing to deter him. The deaths of these children didn't even make him blink, so why would the deaths of your children?

i was on the traditional tune archive looking up the lyrics to a 200 year old drinking song and damned if it didn’t nudge me to try their stupid new AI which, why? what could that possibly even be for?

It's sad to see CEO's forced to live like US school children do.

I will admit, I was thinking about this every time I called and the automated response said that system could not even put my call in a queue because it was so busy and I should just try again later or on the next business day. Sure, what we need is ~fewer!~ people working to make this all work.

I get this is a 'no rest for the weary' situation, but these are important: there are 2 special elections for Dem-held seats in Virginia's House & Senate in *under a month.* GOP gains would erase Dems' majority in each. Dems favored in each, but strange things happen in low-turnout specials.
