Fresh from Belfast Eastercon, it's submissions time! mythaxis.co.uk/submissions.... We're hungry for sf/f/h with our eye on 2026, but especially for crime subs - slots to fill in our winter All-crime issue. Photo(shopped) credit to @rickandwrite.bsky.social

Many congrats to Rick Danforth for winning the BSFA award for Best Audio with THE PERSONAL TOUCH! Very much deserved 😍 (and to Charlotte Ashley for taking the 2nd step in her goal of accepting every major SF award on someone else's behalf 😉) @rickandwrite.bsky.social @charlotteashley.bsky.social

Belfast Eastercon has been lots of fun, and @noumenon.bsky.social has been handing out Mythaxis Magazine bookmarks to anyone who'll take them (and maybe even a few who'd prefer not)

Belated thanks too from the editor! As always, we're delighted to have some great contributors join us – and thanks to YOU too, if you click through and give us a read! 🙂

I just started reading THE TERMINAL MAN by Michael Crichton, written in '71, and he just described an inkjet printer in the careful-to-convey-the-marvel way you'd describe a quantum computer.

Quick heads up - technical problems mean the Mythaxis site is down (excellently timed to coincide with the close of our current submissions window!). We'll have it back up ASAP.

was mostly keeping it together until I read Kyle MacLachlan's tribute to David Lynch

One second from every episode of Twin Peaks.

How many thanks can one give to and for David Lynch? RIP 😔

I hate that I have to do this. But I feel like I don't have any choice. :\ I can't continue living the way I am right now. But to make the change I need, I need a two week buffer while I search for a new job. I hope you'll consider helping. gofund.me/b59ab51e

Kind words here about our Autumn (aka "Fall") issue - thanks @supernovareviews.bsky.social

Just sneaking in under the New Year's Eve wire, here's a rundown of the ten books I enjoyed the most in 2024: cartesiantheatre.wordpress.com/2024/12/31/m...

Many thanks once again to our latest gang of contributors - your work is much appreciated. Best wishes for the coming year to both them AND anyone who pops in to read! (and to everybody else... well, grudging best wishes at best 😉)

New issue is imminent… in addition to our long- and shortform reviews, we welcome six original stories by contributors old and new, each with streaming audio! A year ago we released our first all-crime issue, we're about to return to the scene - why not wait for us there? mythaxis.co.uk/issue-36/

Very eager to get my hands on this!

Cover reveal happened! Very happy to share that my crime story THE ENDS will be appearing in the anthology "Motives Unknown - New Northern Crime" from Dead Ink Books in 2025! deadinkbooks.com/product/moti... Preordering at the link will help you deal with waiting until the first of May...

I backed a Kickstarter recently: ONE BILLION USERS, a Mille Bornes-like social media card game co-created by @mmasnick.bsky.social Now I want my game, and so do 630 other descerning backers, but the campaign needs a lot more love and money to succeed! JOIN US… www.kickstarter.com/projects/mma...

More Barcelona street art, from here and there

New day, two new books: started The Glorious Heresies before noon, The Black Dahlia after it. The miracle of it is, I even managed to do some writing myself for a change as well...

The next issue of @mythaxis.bsky.social is all-crime, so to get in the mood I've been going back to basics with some of the genre's classics. Today I've been slamming chapters of Dashiell Hammett's RED HARVEST like they're shots. No sleep tonight until I've finished the bottle.

To enliven my biweekly commute, I've been dipping into Nightmare Magazine's "Women Destroy Horror!" special issue. Which has been on my Kindle since... October 2014. I look forward to finishing their "Queers Destroy Horror!" special sometime around the winter of '34.

Amongst everything else, I've been reading The Whole Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy over the last month or so, and will probably wrap up book 5 this week. It's been strange. Good, but strange.

Tfw you look at the picture, read the headline, and can't decide whether you believe that's really who it's describing or not.

How time slithers

Huge appreciation for another great group of contributors! We love these stories! The audio of Tintype Trolls is live now, recordings of the others will be announced as they land over the coming weeks :-) If you can't wait, all the stories from i38 are waiting for you... mythaxis.co.uk/issue-38/

In Gràcia (a world unto itself)

A graffiti sequence in the hillside vacinity of Parque Güell, BCN

More Gràcia street art - BCN Contrary to possible expectations, La Trina (note the space) is a pleasant vermouth bar and not a toilet.

A sequence of painted shutters - somewhere in Gràcia barrio, Barcelona

BREXIT or ENG-ER-LAND? 1. Highly negative approach to Europe 2. Complete reluctance to alter strategy in the face of poor national performance 3. Failure on the Left 4. Somehow still going 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿/⚽😉
