but also struggles and going through some dark times, and maybe those stories would give people solace in knowing that they aren't the ones going through such painful times, rather than just ignore them until they crash into them face first.

Thank you for the clarification and for the reminder, I am still growing up as a writer, so might have some wrong assumptions here and there.
And people should accept stories like that! The aversion to "the horrors" is something that have been bothering me. Life is not all sunshine and enjoyment...

I feel the best of both worlds is having stories with OCs going through lots of shit, but having happy endings, rewarding them for their perseverance.
And sometimes having OCs get out and out bad endings, because it do be like that sometimes.
