When I mentioned dorobert/dorosylvbert and Ferdiegard were my rare pairs of choice, I got a reply stating that Dorothea and Hubert (plus Sylvain in an ot3) would be the sexy spy trope for sure haha.

Ferdie in awe of his lips and Edelgard in awe of Hubert's booty. She has the best birthday ever.

Indeed! That's what will make it really engaging! Looking at how the allies tried to reforge Germany, Italy and Japan could also help big even if they are more "contemporary modern" examples instead of "early modern" Europe than Fodlan leans too.

Addendum: Counter enlightenment could also help give ideas. Some romanticists appear to be in agreement with the enlightenment and others seem to think it didn't go far enough. BUT there's a consistent good old days mentality and Faerghus would be "trad" romanticism

The irony here is that GERMANY is associated with the protestant reformation, or north Germany (I was actually in Leipzig when they were celebrating Luther's anniversary). Marx even was inspired by the concurrent peasant's revolt. Catholic France eventually became more liberal, Germany conservative.

I do like your point regarding nationalism though. Didn't it come with the enlightenment? And by nationalism we're talking about nation building which also broke apart empires like how Austria-Hungary broke up to multiple nations right? Not nationalism as in belief in supremacy and chauvinism.

Is Byleth a Messianic or semi divine figure in your timeline? If so, the fight against Rhea mirrors Protestants seeing themselves fighting against Rome as what Jesus would want. (The Orthodox amusingly thought the prots being against Rome was cool but they sitll aligned with Rome theologically)

Yea what makes Germany interesting is that the stereotype of Prussian conservatism did not arise from nowhere. But the nation did accept capitalism even if it was noted to have a rather illiberal character compared to "the west". Hence post WWII Germany's culture needed to be reforged ground up.

(I'm also unsure if I'm correct in this lol, but wikipedia seems to have my back? At least if we equalize Edelgard with the French revolution and Faerghus with post Napoleonic Germany. If I offended any actual Europeans here and got things wrong I am so sorry).

So if Dimitri is dead, we could see romanticist movements popping up kinda thinking about the "good old days" but I'd imagine this would be decades after Edelgard has passed away. They'd decry the loss of chivalry. So they'd do an attack of liberalism, but from tradition not from the left.

These things would be threatening the only feudal order as merit instead of favor to the king would be paramount. An age of romanticism may arise in Faerghus as it did in Germany which is the equivalent to Faerghus in our timeline. Germany was more conservative than France and maybe Italy I think.

Well the interesting about Edelgard is that her entire ideology is essentially ushering the age of enlightenment on Fodlan. If serfdom exists it would be abolished. Peasants may soon find themselves able to own and buy land to become the petite bourgeoise. We may see a rise of industrialists.

Much better obsession they have than whatever Dimitri has going on. (I like him in other pairings but he's literally the flirting vs harassment meme with his obsession vs Ferdibert's with Edelgard)

And Dorothea being more exposed to the flaws of the crests via Sylvain would also make for an interesting story if Ferdie/Mercie is on the side. I know both women would push their men to use their influence to bring about great societal change. If Edelbert is there too we got a holy trinity.

I always felt Mercie/Ferdie and Dorovain would make great allies too. You got an orange haired noble man getting together with a woman who suffered immensely at the hands of Fodlan's hierarchies. While Ferdithea touches on class, having Ferdie confront the crest system like Sylcedes would be great

See I thought the best part was Edelgard blushing at Hubert with their A support. Now the whole idea of taking charge, "roles reversed", and commanding has a whole new meaning haha.
