mahjong is a fighting game. my third eye is opened and i understand this now. points are a lifebar. you can control advantage with jabs (open yakuhai/tanyao), but if you're down near timeout (all last), you need aggression and risking counterhits (rons) to get a big hit (mangan) for the life lead

Putting my game of the year list together, in its early stages, and what's immediately jumping out to me is that smaller, tightly focused indie games are, on average, placing higher than the bigger AAA titles. If you think that gaming is stale, play more indies.
