Philly local tv station reporting that a man allegedly posed as an ICE agent in order to rob a car repair business office. How many other criminals might be getting this idea right now, given that actual ICE agents are refusing to show IDs, warrants, badges?

Dr. Jay Bhattacharya Testifies before the Senate Appropriations Committee Senator Durbin asks the NIH director, Jay Bhattacharya, about the massive cuts to the NIH Part 1.

Brutal interview with a public health professor on how close medical research is to collapse.

Outstanding article by John Holdren and Neal Lane highlighting damage to NSF, NOAA, and EPA as well as NIH. "the best hope for saving science..is convincing a couple dozen Republican members of Congress that it's up to them" to save US leadership in science thebulletin.org/2025/06/time...

it’s such a weird conceit of American journalism to enforce the batshit idea that people will only trust us to tell the truth if we ostentatiously lie about our (supposed lack of) personal opinions

The concept of satyagraha as developed by Mahatma Gandhi and that later inspired MLK is actually quite difficult. Part of it involves being willing to *experience* significant violence and suffering without giving it back. See Dharasana as an example.

kind of just endlessly sad and grieving that there are so few voices in the public sphere making the basic principled argument that immigration is an affirmative good in every way and the best way for this country to serve humanity is to welcome people who want or need to leave their homes

One of the wild things about NYC politics, and how people tell on themselves, is that Zohran’s mom is from India, and he was born in Uganda, both countries which have huge diaspora communities in the city, and every single question about a foreign country is… neither of those.

Bitch you're the only person talking about this shit! This is letting the other side dictate the debate! We've been beaten over the head with Alexander Hamilton quotes for a decade and yet party leadership still hasn't internalized the easiest thing: "Those who stand for nothing fall for anything."

I’m not entirely sure what I think about this but the next time I teach is January 2026 and a lot will have happened by then.

Pleasantly surprised by Dick Durbin here. He is exactly right to blame the entire thing on Vance personally and derail the entire process. Don’t confirm anybody and waste as much time as possible. I hope they follow through. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/06/u...

I agree. Don’t try to overanalyze it. The purpose of the RCV process is the process itself handles the strategy for you. You put down who you like.

Look the Trump/Elon thing is funny and not irrelevant but the NYT’s top 7 stories are about this now, complete with video and live coverage, whatever that even means here. Absurd.

This is a typical kind of attitude from a very generic account that doesn’t understand there is a very real scientific, engineering, policy, and academic subculture still only on Twitter that is quite distinct from what you experience if you just post generic political shit like most here do.

It is because of this exact, specific stuff that I started posting on Twitter again. This science stuff is important.

Yeah and levers Trump has are removing Elon’s citizenship, freezing his assets, nationalizing his companies, cancelling contracts, sending him to El Salvador without a phone, … Trump could quite easily make a pretty vicious example of him.
