Bloor & Spadina, 8:45 am. Toronto, we're approaching BIKE CONGESTION! This is one of the bike lanes the Ford government wants to remove. There are more people on bikes than people driving.

Does support for Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs) affect the re-election prospects of Labour councillors in London? Despite backlash/controversy, we find no evidence that publicly supporting LTNs had any negative impacts on electoral outcomes in 2022. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

The Telegraph (£) looks at public health in the Netherlands, including the benefits of government policies that support everyday cycling: “It helps prevent diseases like diabetes, heart conditions, and depression… It improves mental wellbeing, increases life expectancy and boosts social cohesion…”

Let me tell you the story of the most visible example of economic and political failure in modern Britain. Leeds is the largest city in western Europe without a mass transit system, and we are all poorer because of it. How did we get here? Why does it matter? And what can be done?

Sombre note from Citi on UK. Gist is - we're locked in a bad dynamic and a painful rebalancing looks in order: breaking election vows and a period of slower growth. Likelihood is that there will be a period of "muddling through" before we get there, which will make reckoning more painful.

Bitterns are BOOMING! 💚 283 males were recorded booming in 2024 - a 20% rise on 2023 and the biggest jump since monitoring began. Once extinct as breeding birds in the UK, they're making an incredible recovery. More in the video below, sound on...🔊

New episode ! We talked with the delightful British journalist and author Laura Laker about her odyssey on the UK's National Cycle Network, what makes good cycling infrastructure, and her work in setting standards for how reporters & cops talk about traffic crashes. thewaroncars.org/2025/03/11/e...

The 2022 summer in UK saw temperatures hit 40°C for the first time and left firefighters stretched, with London Fire Brigade having its ‘busiest day since the Second World War’ We know climate change is not a future threat but current reality www.metoffice.gov.uk/about-us/new...

"TDNS concluded ... net-zero by 2050 option had a NPV of between -£2.8bn-+£1.0bn. However, in accordance with DfT guidance, this does not include capital cost savings for cheaper electric trains nor capacity benefits of electric traction." www.railengineer.co.uk/r-i-p-tracti...

Question for the BSky hivemind: I am looking for info on community/shared car chargers. Our resident's association are looking for something that would allow residents to share a charger, and be billed accurately for their use. Any pointers greatly appreciated! #EVCharging #Community

Our Swiss construction team get to do all the cool stuff. Installation of the renewal of the Rigi railway. They sent a video from last week - swapping out some masts from the 1930's.

Make no mistake, today’s energy #pricecap rise is due to our continued reliance on gas, not clean energy development. New fossil fuel licenses won’t deliver energy security, economic growth nor put pounds in the pockets of UK citizens. More from @shaunspiers1.bsky.social:

Off usualy topics, but amazing couple of images of #Roman #England that have come across my screen. Roman London with a barely extand south london under water; and East Anglia largely under the waters of the river Bure, Yare and Waveney Estuary - land that is today reclaimed for Great Yarmouth.
