Chromatin and cryoEM afficionada. Still a fan of crystallography. Avid Colorado hiker. Will call out ugly nucleosome cartoons. Come for the science, stay for the mountain pictures and snark. Opinions and snark are my own.

this just smells soooo bad. i really hope no-one whatsoever puts ANY inappropriate content EVER onto this wonderful website because we all have to know which schools have gender-neutral bathrooms (for example), or god forbid offer free school breakfasts / lunches for hungry students.

The Atlantic story on the situation at NIH is sobering. We are so screwed. www.theatlantic.com/health/archi...

Found this quilt in my Pinterest feed, described as the Heartwood Quilt. (quiltinspiration.blogspot.com) But I just noticed a neat elementary school math curriculum connection: each block shows how the number 1 can be decomposed: 1 = 1 = 1/2+1/2 = 1/2+1/4 +1/4 = 1/4+1/4 +1/4 +1/4. Cool!

The callousness, cruelty, and incompetence of this administration of billionaires (who allege to ‘value the sanctity of life’) is literally killing children, promotes the spread of preventable disease, and upends countless lives. Call your representatives. #roguepresident

Wanted to share this story about my colleague Bryant Lin. We’re working together on bringing art and science together but his story runs much deeper. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/26/u...

Ran into this beauty on my ride home from work

must read 🧪

NIH freeze by the numbers, and the conclusion is correct. This is sabotage, and we are quickly reaching a point where even if everything were to open back up today, it would be too late to save many labs.

#princesskrios got her column split and is back to fine form

I have decided to cancel my show at The Kennedy Center on May 11, 2025 and move it to The Anthem.

seeing several positively glowing undergraduates in the lab today because they received offers from graduate school. Very exciting and very proud of them! 🧪. Despite the 'Endzeitstimmung, remember, this is why we are doing all of this...❤️❤️❤️

my candidate for word of the year

My car has a bit of moss on it, tbh, but this solitary chap on the roof is my favourite. I don’t have a name for him yet but he accompanies me on every journey, and I hope he stays.

If you're needing a break from Doom scrolling, this is fantastic. I could listen to these two Majestic birds talk on a loop for an hour.

This!!!

The Trump administration's efforts to slash research funding have US graduate students, postdocs and other early-career scientists fearing for their careers. Some might leave the country -- or abandon research altogether. https://go.nature.com/43ao2zq

Who benefits from US funding uncertainty? Hours after posting this, I got an email inviting me to China with a “package to support my research for 20 years.” Apparently, generous offers are available to all good scientists!🧪🧠

with all the cool fabric i was gifted, i am obsessing endlessly over color choices. and then i remind myself that this #quilt made by my then 10-year old is still one of my faves....

THIS!!!! YES PLEASE! also #austria whatever the heck you are doing right now get your act together and show some sense!

So Germany, I'd really appreciate it if you didn't follow the US lead and fall into darkness today. Thank you. #Bundestagswahl2025

In other news, does anyone know who might be living in our car!??? #Colorado #wildlife

This will be fun #quiltsky

With their hatred of gender fluidity, isnt it weird that this administration only hires men without gonads? Only other qualification seems to be compete absence of spine and looking stupid in a red hat

Pretty devastating new WaPo poll on Trump A majority of Americans: • Say he’s not honest (62%) • Say he’s exceeded his authority (57%) • Disapprove his job as president (53%) • Disapprove his economic record (53%) • Disapprove management style (54%)

🧪i had the privilege to serve on NAGMS council under @jeremymberg.bsky.social, and met many of the POs. So impressed by the level of professionalism and dedication to science by this group of ppl. 💔to see the wrecking ball crash through it. lets not let them destroy the best of US science.

🧪👍💯 Thank you @jeremymberg.bsky.social, your postings are invaluable. Please continue to keep us informed re ongoings at the NIH and study sections. What times we live in...

Regarding CSR Study Sections: SROs are apparently being told that their communication to their valued reviewer colleagues must be: "The xxxx meeting will be rescheduled for a later date, yet to be determined. Thank you for the time you've invested in the reviews. Signed by CSR SRO" Please be kind
