I've learned that at least two other journals have also received these letters but are keeping it private, presumably because they fear becoming a Trump target. This is incredibly naive, short-sighted logic. Failure to organize and directly oppose fascism doesn't work out well. Buck up academics.

When the Senator flying to El Salvador is posting over and over about flying to El Salvador and the other congressperson is going “make sure this stays anonymous”, it really makes it pretty easy to know who the correct person is

Being on American soil is better than being in El Salvador in terms of access to rights. Full stop. My point is that people who are awed by the cruelty of foreign prisons aren’t paying attention to what happens here at home.

There are valuable use cases for AI, like drug discovery, but in those cases we're talking about different models than LLMs and can justify the energy and water use more easily.
This much energy and water consumption to ripoff Studio Ghibli or generate error-riddled essays is unjustifiable.
