Pissing people off, You belligerent asshole, Not impressive. Spring.

What do the stoics say, @tannerocampbell.bsky.social ? Should we criticize mistaken thinking, let it be without concern, or some third thing?

They've talked themselves in so many circles about a war on men that they've discovered toxic masculinity. This meme inherits a problematic and unreflective understanding of stoicism (you're angry because you're persecuted for being so stoic? Is... stoicism in the room now?) but... it's something

If oppression was a unique function of government, you could simply cut it off and be done. If it can be imagined that in such an anarchy some might find an oppressive advantage over others then you've solved nothing, and any system you invent against that oppression is by definition a government.

The world is made of people, and government is just one thing that we do. It's reasonable to be frustrated when that organization method fails, but all we've ever had is each other. Everything. is. labor. Grow some food and make some friends. Help where you can and ask for help when you need it.

One objection I've never heard to running a government like a business is that no one has ever seen a democratically run business.

"Universal healthcare is socialism, and socialism is bad" is weird. Like... the main problem with Stalin that you've landed on is that he wanted people to be able to afford chemo?

Isn't it crazy and inexplicable that home insurance is more expensive for a $50 million house than a $50 thousand house? yeah, that's the gist of why the rich pay more taxes, and if you can't get that across then there's not much use arguing further.

Stop trying to win and start stochastically cost-driving.

I do this thing where I take things that conservatives are done with and earmark them for adoption. Like bible verses and the constitution and "give me liberty or give me death" and states rights. I try to not worry about hypocriticality... it's just free real estate. it's free real estate.

When the guy at the window does a good job I get delicious food. When he does a bad job I get soggy fries. When the fund manager does a good job I see nothing, when he does a bad job the entire economy collapses and that guy at the window becomes harder to justify visiting.

We train young men to drop fire on people but their commanders won't allow them to write FUCK on their airplanes because it's obscene. -Col Kurtz, Apocalypse Now Winning the definition of obscene is the most important thing you can do in your circles. Cutting kits health insurance? Obscene.

If humanity's only hope was 1000 people on a spaceship traveling to restart on another planet, why are none of the people you actually need currently among the best cared for members of society? Are we not all here, on a spaceship, trying to make humanity work?

Think of a thing that is not a combination of dirt and labor. That is the most radicalizing realization I have ever realized.

My neck just cracked and three years came out

flipping switches one by one is a heck of a way to teach everyone what the government actually does

Hard to believe we're only three weeks into Musk's presidency.

People out here saying "they don't think the science is settled", but the unsettled science is "what is a tariff?"

There's is a world of difference between disapproving of something and disapproving of something being uncomfortable. Is the problem the thing or is the problem that it now requires action? Disagreement does not only mean that you wouldn't say those words. It also means that you DISAGREE with them.

'Clearing up a misunderstanding' is difficult when the 'misunderstanding' is the goal of all moral philosophy, medicine, what science is, what science knows, how conflict works, sociology, psychology, statesmanship, civics, political theory, and history - the entirety of the project of civilization.

"You can't worry about it too much" would feel less like "shut up" if you also told firefighters that they shouldn't worry about burning houses. After all - only God can truly put out a house fire. Bonus points, of course, if it was your house currently burning down. Or... You realized it is.

It’s not atheism. I just cannot believe in whatever the actual fuck these people are looking at.

I live in a world where diy crispr kits cost $500, custom DNA cost $.50 per base pair, and three stitches in the emergency room cost $2200 out of pocket. I saw a guy make an X-ray machine out of a broken microwave on YouTube because it's barely more sophisticated than a 1900s camera.

What people mean when they say they want a 'traditional' society is usually more accurately a 'pure' society. They can say this with a straight face only because they are under the narcissistic delusion that they fall within the "IN" group, and that by the end such a society would tolerate them.

Undocumented workers can't demand minimum wage or make a claim against their employer (OSHA, injury, w/e). The system relies on them being here and here illegally. As horrible as that is, people misunderstanding this arrangement is creating a far, far worse situation for everyone

Can anyone define "woke cancel culture" in a way that makes it different than society having moral standards and holding public figures accountable?

What if social contracts were real and the erosion of those contracts for monetary gain fundamentally dissolves the structures built on those contracts such as the essential functions of the state… the monopoly on violence, for example? LIKE THIS WASN’T A FUCKING ABSTRACT IDEA. That’d be nuts.

I'm not trying to win an argument. I'd just like my kids to have the chance at a decent, meaningful, and maybe even pleasant life.

Ugh... Not the boats.

The rich pay more taxes for the same reason fire insurance costs more on a million dollar house than a fifty thousand dollar house. If everything fell apart tomorrow, a person with nothing would still just have nothing.

"Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic socialism, as I understand it." - George Orwell

An acquaintance of mine who likes to complain about voter fraud just posted a picture of his 'voted' sticker for a state he hasn't lived in for at least 4 years.

An argument not designed to persuade is just in-group boundary maintenance, or, worse, delusional self-soothing. yo snark is giving low effort, fam.

To be perfectly honest, I never figured out Twitter either

I love the chaos of a new human network superbrain working out who is going to be inexplicably popular
