In almost all cases, 4K video is an extravagance, putting an unnecessary burden on storage, bandwidth and electricity. As many of us in the world rethink our global quest for more, more, more, maybe we start with examples that most folks will never even notice in most circumstances.

I just got flagged for at least the 3rd time on Threads and Instagram for breaching Community Standards, which I've never done. To verify my identity, they want my email address (which is fine), my phone number (which is less fine), and now a video selfie (which is a hard nope). I guess I'm out.

@bsky.app CEO @jay.bsky.team details how the platform utilizes open networks to allow users to craft their own social media experience while maintaining their personal privacy.

*whiny voice* "I don't want measles! I don't want another great depression!" What happened to being tough. What happened to suffering and dying needlessly

People keep using the word "empathy" in political discourse. Attempting to turn animosity into policy isn't just a lack of empathy. It's a colossal moral failure.

Sometimes politicians win by knowing when to shut up. Admittedly, it's a skill they all seem to be losing, but it's still true.

"He doesn't know ____." Maybe he knows. Maybe not. The truth is that he doesn't care. He doesn't care about anything. That is why he was chosen. He has no principles, so he is an inkblot test for his people to believe whatever they want to about him. All power, no character. It's beyond scary.

It only takes one unverified repost to lose one's journalistic credibility.

I block the people who pass off their own inflated wishful thinking as official transcripts, and I unfollow the people who repost them.

Org tip (especially for non-profits): be very careful with the word "partner" and "partnership." These words are often used casually, but they have a formal definition with legal implications. Overusing them can cause confusion and even legal challenges.

If we are not in favour of diversity, equity and inclusion, then we are in favour of discrimination, supremacism and exclusion. It's sobering how quickly and easily people can be persuaded to abandon their values with a few slick slogans. #selfawareness #medialiteracy

Never confuse profound, wilful disregard for stupidity. Morality is much more significant than intelligence.

I caught up with an old friend tonight. A lot of water under the bridge since we last spoke. Both of us approached the conversation with trepidation. But after all this time, we're in a very similar place, so similar that it was a little surprising to both of us. Friendship is a beautiful thing!

I'm grateful that Canada's commitment to human rights and solidarity hasn't been shaken by the turmoil in the US. We have so much work to do! We cannot allow ourselves to be divided by opportunistic politicians who think that scapegoating minorities is a pathway to unity.

You know that building your career on a social media platform is dangerous -- you're at the mercy of whims and influences well outside of your control. What's new is the awareness that building your skillset on their styling and editing software is at least equally dangerous.

A new year, so there's lots of advice floating around about setting goals. Naming dreams to achieve. Stuff like that. This year, I'm getting serious about it. Because one conversation with a good friend today changed everything! I need to name some specific objectives. Possibilities abound!

When we sign up for a service, we pledge to comply with its rules. If we break its rules, there should be consequences. It's not about censorship. It's about integrity. This is why we agree to Terms of Service, and why we comply with them. Moving the goalposts disrupts the culture.

There has been an overcorrection when it comes to organisation. I don't mean one organisation in particular. I mean organising in general. I've seen several people say they'll support an individual, but nothing organised. Organising is the way individuals align and magnify their energy.

People stuck in an echo chamber cannot be critical thinkers. They have nothing outside of their narrow frame of reference to go by. Being a critical thinker requires diverse ideas to compare and contrast with. Rigid thinkers elevate avoiding alternative ideas into a kind of moral virtue.

Curation is still a woefully undervalued skill. Elevating toxic, dangerous people both feeds and is fed by addiction to controversy. It's unnecessary to know what most celebrities, politicians and even oligarchs are doing most of the time. We each need to choose what to direct our attention to.

Happy to slot one last photo session in for 2024 this afternoon! Robyn Froese is a singer/songwriter in the Vancouver area. Thanks for joining me for this, Robyn!

Tonight, a planned photoshoot I'd been planning for months got scrapped. The reason? Something ugly happened at a recent photoshoot the woman was in, and she needs space from all of it. It sucks that she has to bear the weight of someone else's actions, and our fun idea is poisoned as a result.

Mainstream media corporations aren't consistent in principle, fact or perspective. Rather they are consistent in provoking fear and outrage, addicting people to their never-ending flow of superficial sensationalism. Media corporations aren't generous. They are profoundly, exclusively self-serving.

When conflict is engaged in directly, it can escalate unpredictably and unnecessarily. Often an Oblique approach works better.
