Except that only if data (personal, content, meta) is truly decentralized can you claim to provide a democratic infrastructure.
Bluesky just plans to outsource costs, responsibility, and liability, but will keep the data both for obvious reasons and to avoid the hard challenges of a federated netw.
And that does even address its glass house design, which is more extreme than early days FB or Twitter, meant to normalize the absence or any scope of privacy on social media or the web, so no one questions that everything can be scraped by anyone and is, and then processed by AI.
What step? There's nothing on the roadmap for bsky or AT that reduces centralization. There also won't be any changes as that's the business plan they rely on.
Society starts to reflect it's communication. @jay.bsky.team Pls join my #relinquish_access campaign about @Starlink. net-nuetrality seems to have fallen.
I watched much of this discussion on YouTube last night. Graber’s vision is democratic and inspiring. An open-source approach to social media could be a countermeasure to the closed platforms operated by billionaires who often have clear political agendas.
By now, we should be able to easily discern the limitations and pitfalls of closed garden or proprietary technosystems. Social media should be taking the open path that leads away from oligarch controlled platforms.
If only they invested all this money, time and energy into mastodon instead building something from the ground, we all would be 3 steps ahead and the other site would've been already less relevant..
Nobody but pirates belong on Bitcoin, or any other digital asset. It's a tower of pirate themed playing cards. VOC 2.0 only darkness will come from digital assets
The biggest difference I find between @bsky.app and early Twitter is the latter was much better at fostering interactions between non-blue check users by sharing our tweets more widely
BlueSky feels like I'm in the audience waiting for the Q&A portion of the presentation
Are we really controlling the algorithm? Just like on X, I still see posts I don't want to see from accounts I don't follow and don't want to follow. How can we avoid this, short of spending a lot of time blocking and muting individual accounts?
She doesn’t use the word privacy and on bsky, you literally cannot private your account
The overall 20,000 ft vision is solid, but if bsky to succeed they have to enable basic, tablestakes features even if they exist at the client, not the protocol, level for now
Bluesky isn't bad, but the one thing it does *not* have is personal privacy. The only things that are private are messages. There is no way to make a post or even your entire profile/feed friends-only. Even Facebook does that better.
I'm also interested in privacy options. It looks like some new features are in the works.
"Shared data (eg, group privacy) will likely be the next major protocol component, with E2EE DMs following that"
In Twitter you could @ someone specifically and only if you wanted it to broadcast to all followers you would put a dot in front like
.@ but in Bluesky everybody that follows you gets the @
We should have a web encrypted alternative for everthing. Defend us from #GAMAF e from #USA #UE government.
In a minute they could access to our files/money. Now it's ok but if Satana wins election?
The 🕸️, https is an open protocol. Email as well. If social networks are based on open protocols, users can simply take their posts, likes and followers to another app that is based on the same protocol. If you don't like Chrome and its terms, you can use Firefox and continue to use the internet.
Fix your "change email" process. It is broken online and in the app. The website is NOT sending the email with the confirmation code needed to continue the email change process. Multiple emails to support have gone unanswered.
Need help getting my primary account back. DMH-GD3. HELP!! I’m emailing support every day. Still waiting. I had to sign in and reset password and won’t accept my reset. Help.
I wish Bluesky allowed the ability to post .3mf files directly, and display them in such a way that the viewer, can rotate the 3D image as desired, zoom in and out, etc.
I think democratic is about to become a word from the past so I don't know how much effort you should put into that but if you are serious this counting letters in a reply needs to go away and soon..I like to reply in detail and this does not suit my needs so I am using Facebook for now.See I ran ou
that's on the roadmap and will hopefully be here within the next 6-7 months. it's a difficult problem to solve for a decentralized system, but it's a priority.
This is why we need more women in senior roles in businesses. @jay.bsky.team is an inspiration, not just to women and girls, but everyone who cares deeply for democracy and openness
This interview got me to sign up where dozens of creators and facebook friends inviting me couldn't. It's the thoughts underneath the hood that counts!
Nothing against open network but certain design changes need to be implemented to prevent its corruption. I'm just surprised no one is implementing these simple features in their codes. It would solve a lot of the existing problems.
This CEO inspired me to pay for AMC+ streaming so I could watch the "Halt and Catch Fire" series again. She reminds me of the Cameron Howe character with her intelligence and drive.
The Internet was the opportunity, the web was an engaging way to use The Internet but we could still see a networked future that was flat & enabling of humanity.
When Venture Capital fuelled 'social' media brands enclosed their users inside walled gardens the opportunity was highjacked.

Witchcraft or stagecraft?
Either way, it's not very authentic @bsky.app 🙄

So this, aside from being a Twitter clone is intending to create a Discord server type setup.
I've moderated discord servers before. It's not looking like it's gaining controls like that yet.
Thus, the world was created.
