Also: be ready to stand up for *all* of science. NASA has an advantage because everyone thinks space is cool! Use that to protect the NSF, the NIH, the FDA, and all the other critical science that doesn't get cool press releases! We have to stand for more than just self interest, stand for science.

Once again: The presidential budget request is a *request*, it usually is ignored in the case of NASA in particular regardless of who is in power, NASA is very popular and very well positioned lobbying-wise, there are many steps between here and the actual budget.

Also also: the rumor mill is saying that agencies are going to start implementing the PBR before Congress acts on it. THAT IS ILLEGAL AND WE, OUR INSTITUTIONS, AND OUR PROFESSIONAL ORGS NEED TO SAY THAT AND SUE FOR IT. Congress has the power of the purse.

Finally, this is just a request. Congress appropriates funds, not the President. Regardless of everything that has been going on. Regardless of who your Congress people are, contact them and demand they #SaveNASA (and NSF and NIH etc etc etc)

And because I’ve already had to remind at least one person- this money gets spent on Earth, in the US, paying people’s salaries, purchasing from numerous companies and suppliers and that money goes on to pay taxes, support businesses etc because that’s how the economy works.

Management at Goddard. They have only sent an email to existing mentors at GSFC and it's slowly filtering out to the rest of us. No idea when official announcement will go public.

apparently March 2025 cycle applicants will also not be selected until after the November 2025 call.

If there's a takeaway I have for you, it's this - you should visit your local state and national parks. You should learn about your local public lands and their histories. And you should fight for their protection from mining and other forms of extraction!

If I learned anything from my time at the Canyon, it's that people are so eager to learn. Seeing the Grand Canyon raises so many questions, and it helps them reconnect to learning in a joyful way. This is what public lands can do - remind people to be curious about the world and their place in it.

Astronomers have argued that access to dark skies should be a human right, and I agree! Ongoing efforts to preserve dark skies, and extend their access to as many people as possible, are intertwined with the work to preserve public lands, and ensure their stewardship for future generations.
