Thank you @sifill.bsky.social for inspiration in a grim time.

It's also remarkable the share of working women veterans who work for the federal government -- roughly 1 in 6: nationalpartnership.org/report/trump.... These communities are going to be devastated by these harmful attacks

Trump’s war on babies continues… ❌ EO attack on birthright citizenship ❌ Supports cuts for babies to Child Tax Credit ❌ Threatening 41% of babies with $880 billion in Medicaid cuts ❌ Promoting vaccine-preventable illness ❌ Destroying USAID, an agency which saves lives of babies worldwide ❌ THIS 👇

“The political press may not understand what's happening (or may be too afraid to say it out loud), but those of us who've spent decades studying how technology and power interact? We see it and we can't look away.”

Evil. And another case of Trump de-documenting *legal* immigrants. www.reuters.com/world/us/tru...

Whenever the New York Times gives Trump style points, it reminds me of a line in Mel Brooks’ “The Producers”: “The Fuhrer was a terrific dancer.”

"The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little." —FDR, 1937

Terrific piece by @crampell.bsky.social on how Trump is losing the 21st century for the US. She gives 3 reasons - I’d add a 4th: torching the future opportunities of young people, who are majority people of color & one quarter children of immigrants. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

Immigrant rights groups filed a lawsuit challenging the Trump administration's decision to end temporary protections against deportation for thousands of Haitian and Venezuelan migrants living in the United States @nateraymond.bsky.social reut.rs/3QIg9tD

Thanks to @msnbc.com for having me on. Everyone: Call your members of Congress and tell them to stop Trump & Republican leadership from cutting core programs like Medicaid & childcare just to give big tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy. Tell them hands off K-12 too. #DontDefundPublicSchool

Good news about local press staying on top of consequences of Fed cuts.

The Trump administration is: *breaking the law by not spending appropriated money from Congress *breaking the law by ignoring a court order *lying about it *killing people *silencing public employees who are pointing all of this out

"Trump and Vance crossed a giant moral Rubicon today. They showed the entire world the full fetid awfulness of their vision" -- my colleague @sashaabramsky.bsky.social on Trump's disgraceful behavior at the White House yesterday www.thenation.com/article/poli...

Terrific piece by @sifill.bsky.social on how much it matters when lawyers meet their professional obligations to say no. Suggests to me making sure we also honor other professions in saying no-eg, federal officials who’ve resigned rather than break the law. contrarian.substack.com/p/when-lawye...

"Either way, it’s as if Franklin Delano Roosevelt had showered slurs on Winston Churchill during the Blitz and praised Adolf Hitler" -- The Philadelphia Inquirer's great foreign-affairs columnist Trudy Rubin, on what the hell just happened here www.inquirer.com/opinion/trum...

It’s time to say it plainly. America’s leadership has switched sides in the war. The American people have not, and they should speak up.

5 former Secretaries of Defense call on Congress to exercise oversight responsibility on Trump-Hegseth firing of senior military leaders: The "dismissals raise troubling questions about the administration’s desire to politicize the military and to remove legal constraints on the President’s power."

NEW: Career DOJ spokesman — a Marine Corps vet — is resigning, saying “basic decency” has come to an end and there’s a “hostile and toxic work environment” inside DOJ. Reporting from NBC News:

Make no mistake: Trump's latest Executive Order is an intimidation tactic targeting immigrant communities & service providers who receive federal funding. Here are 5 things you should know about it ⤵️ www.nilc.org/articles/fiv...

What if we built a new major news and opinion journalism outlet from scratch and used it as a news lab to reform and rethink how we do things, starting first with billionaire-proofing it. And what if we honestly audited our flaws and came together to make the news orgs we want to see?

BREAKING: A federal judge just blocked Donald Trump's executive order pausing the US Refugee Admissions Program saying it appeared to "cross the line" into "nullification of congressional will."

Amid fears of deportation, immigrants are missing medical appointments at Seattle-area clinics www.kuow.org/stories/fear...

Really good. READ @legaldefensefund.bsky.social ‘s analysis.

Context for what’s happening here. open.substack.com/pub/sherrily...

It's strikingly similar to the white supremacy campaigns in Reconstruction North Carolina, as described by Gregory Downs in Declarations of Independence (p.192), where Black employment in government jobs was framed as prima facie evidence of anti-white discrimination.

"The crowd again started shouting 'tax Elon,' 'tax the wealthy,” “tax the rich' and 'tax the billionaires.'" The county went 68% for Trump www.lagrandeobserver.com/news/local/r...

In addition to being illegal, unconstitutional and wrong, Trump's lawlessness is also an extraordinary abuse of power as we the people have to pay his legal bills and ultimately for the damages his harms will bring. He is legally and financially liable for nothing. Break laws, get sued, we pay.

Wondering about Trump's EO targeting immigrants and public benefits? I did a quick explainer yesterday! www.nilc.org/articles/fiv...

Rock Creek this afternoon - one of many things I love about DC (looking at you @dcpubliclibrary.bsky.social for another) @rockcreekpark.bsky.social

Immigrants are our nation’s strength! Share the story of the immigrant caregiver of your life! ¡Los inmigrantes son la fuerza de nuestra nación! ¡Comparte la historia del cuidador inmigrante de tu vida! https://action.momsrising.org/survey/ImmigrationStories/ #ProtectImmigrantFamilies

Across the country immigrants make up more than 17% of the nation's healthcare workers, 18% of childcare workers, 27% of the direct care workforce, and nearly 13% of the education workforce. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iiu4BW6fs7Q #ProtectImmigrantFamilies #CareCantWait

Lawyers, this is what it looks like to honor your oath as a lawyer and as a prosecutor. I want to lift up Denise Cheung, one of a growing group of senior DOJ lawyers who have put the rule of law ahead of politics & short-term career advancement. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/18/u...

Federal workers keep this country running, but Trump’s policies are putting jobs and essential services at risk. Share your story: how does your work make our country stronger, and how are these cuts impacting you and your community?

Terrific thread by @fatimagossgraves.bsky.social on the goal of administration threats to colleges & how to respond. Crucial for the nonprofit & philanthropic world also: weigh options, get legal advice, speak out, & stay the course on civil rights obligations and values-don’t react out of fear.

So glad @crampell.bsky.social lifts up impact of fed staff cuts on young children, incl cuts to Head Start and child care. For 60 yrs, HS fed staff have supported community programs thru research, innovation (HS is a lab for all early childhood programs), training, quality support& monitoring.

Yesterday ~68 people employed in HHS's Administration for Children & Families early childhood offices were terminated. I'm told Office of Head Start lost ~20% of staff; Office of Child Care lost ~25% These workers process grants for preschools/childcare centers, monitor health/safety issues, etc.

The top criminal prosecutor in the U.S. attorney's office in Washington quit today, citing pressure by the Trump administration to open what she viewed as an improper criminal probe of a federal contract. ca.news.yahoo.com/senior-u-pro...
