This thread explains how to remove DRM on ebooks on all platforms. It worked for me with macOS and an old Kindle Voyage, but apparently there’s a way even without a physical device. It’s worth a try. Removal for Kobo works as well for me. www.reddit.com/r/Calibre/s/...

Here's another reason for indie authors to ditch Amazon and switch to another platform like itch.io. Amazon is supposedly getting rid of the "download & transfer via USB option" for ebooks at the end of the month. Buy a Kobo or a Nook if you want more accessibility and control over your media.
