I've used Santa Powers several times to help kids be more attentive to parents and siblings, accepting of people who look different, or just be more patient.

No, that's not kanji, though kanji is used on other protective wards and charms. This is a Shinto ward, I believe. Of what, I couldn't tell you, though I suspect it's related to the sun.

Back in my Study Abroad days, I found this ward on an abandoned building. I asked about it, and the locals said it was to prevent evil spirits from entering and taking up residence.
I've thought about adapting it into a big ol' back tattoo, but I like my birthmark and don't want to cover it.
