Irish spoken ‘for first time’ at Prime Minister’s Questions by SDLP leader Claire Hanna

On Sunday 23rd March, fascists are intending to gather once again in Belfast City Centre to try and make victims of our migrant communities and wave some flags around. There will be a rally at 1pm to show them the true cross-community movement in Belfast stands against racism. No Pasaran!

Hello! Does anyone know a good printer who can do flags, preferably based in NI but doesn't have to be

Ní saoirse go saoirse na mBan. On International Women’s Day we celebrate the impact made by women in society - and recognise how far we have to go to reach gender equity. Today and everyday, the SDLP stands up for women and girls. 💪 #internationalwomensday #iwd2025 #iwd

💜Together with PES Women today we celebrate International Women’s Day. On this occasion, and as we also mark the 30th anniversary of the United Nations’ Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, we are presenting it for those who may not (yet) be familiar with it. (1/2)

Those spreading lies & misinformation will not win whatever pathetic game they are trying to play

📢 SDLP Opposition Day: Delivering for the North West The North West has waited too long for the investment it deserves. Today, the SDLP is using Opposition Day to demand action on: ✅ Job Creation & Cross-Border Growth ✅ Addiction Treatment & Recovery ✅ Infrastructure Investment

The Programme for Government we were presented with today is painfully shallow on detail. The Executive's PfG utterly fails to offer the clear plan people here need. The SDLP Opposition will be key in delivering accountability during the timeframe of this PfG.

This is either the worst cold of my life or I've suddenly decided to develop hayfever

The @SDLPlive made clear we wouldn’t be going to Washington this St Patrick’s Day. Pretending it’s business as usual and a fitting celebration of Irishness just isn’t in line with our values. Glad to see a growing consensus on this & spoke to RTE about it this evening.

Happy 90th birthday to our party president Bríd Rodgers. A trailblazer in every sense of the word, she continues to inspire and has left a lasting impact on life on this island. Thank you Bríd!

Tonight Leader of the Opposition @otoolematthew.bsky.social will be speaking at @ulsteruniversity.bsky.social on the challenge of creating a culture of accountability and improving democratic discourse in local politics. 📍 Lecture Theatre 1, BC Building 📅 6:30pm, Tuesday 18 February

Little-Pengelly and others planning to take the facist soup this St. Patrick's Day at the White House should be ashamed.

Big issue is the unregulated nature of PBSAs; they’re expensive, and take advantage of students not knowing their rights. They’re exploitative. There isn’t a lack of beds in Belfast, but students can’t afford them. They don’t need more ‘luxury’ student bedsits, they need affordable housing.

"We must examine why a group that represents less than 1pc of the population now takes up such a large slice of the political and media landscape — and more importantly, what is being ignored as a result." Exactly this, @jennymaguire.bsky.social. 🎯

Ethnic cleansing in Gaza. Cutting aid to the poorest. Abandoning Ukraine. Is there nothing Trump could do to make you rethink a photo op? We won’t turn a blind eye and we won’t be at the St. Patrick's week celebrations in Washington. @otoolematthew.bsky.social

If you're a cis ally and you're *not* following this case... you should be. This woman is being harassed in a court of law, repeatedly misgendered & called a man to her face by an opposing lawyer. This is completely fine to the judge. I truly don't know how she copes. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Today’s LGBT+ History Month correction. Section 28 was repealed in Scotland in 2000, and in England & Wales in 2003. It never applied to Northern Ireland (although it had impact).

NIRWN stand with our trans community today & every day. If you caught some of the toxic nonsense peddled to one of our Assembly Committees please know that we see you, we value you and we know that Women’s equality will not be advanced by the subjugation of another’s rights 🏳️‍⚧️ 🏳️‍🌈

Going through old messages and found this from @ballyaltonboy.bsky.social and got a wee bit emotional ❤️

Why is nobody talking about this?

As an Irish political party we can’t in good conscience go to Washington for St Patrick’s Day this year. Ireland has a proud history of solidarity with Palestine. The values of the SDLP are simply not compatible with what we’re seeing and hearing from Donald Trump on Gaza.

This is exactly how it's done. ✔️

I am *begging* Labour to remember it is sitting on a huge majority, is facing a completely fractured opposition, has a leader with net positive favourability among voters compared to all his rivals and doesn't have to fight an election for four years...

Discussed Assembly funding & reform on BBC The View. There are so many pressures that it will never feel like enough, but it is truly time for the Executive to get on with it, and to use the power the asked the electorate to give them

The SDLP will always fight for fair and equitable funding for the North, but the Executive must take proper responsibility for managing public finances here. @clairehanna.bsky.social

The public consultation for Sinead McLaughlin MLA's Regional Jobs, Skills and Investment Bill closes on 16th February. Have your say on how we rebalance the North's economy and ensure that no community is left behind: forms.gle/LQ97vrH8Mn6S...

At 6,060 signatures from #Ireland today on this #EU measure to ban the torture that is #LGBT conversion "therapy", 66.12% of Irish signatures needed. Let's make it 69% by today (nice). #Spéirghorm

✨ Do you remember the first time? We do! 💕 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ This month we're having a look back through our archives, starting with our first ever Pride in 2021!! Have a look at our website omaghpride.com/2021 for loads of photos and videos of the big day!

Are you interested in why NI politics struggles to make meaningful change and how we improve our democracy? I'm giving a talk on that subject and my reflections on a year in Oppositon on 18 February at Ulster University Register and come along: www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/creating-a...

The latest comments from Donald Trump on Gaza were chilling. Ethnic cleansing cannot be his latest distorted real estate grift. The international community must respond and defend the Palestinian people. @clairehanna.bsky.social

The Education Minister deflected and dodged questions in the Education Committee today over the decision to give money to a new pitch at Lisneal. This is one of a worrying pattern of opacity coming from the Department regarding public appointments, and decision making.

The thriving, lawful society we need to create needs a free press & trust in institutions. Today the NI Affairs select committee explored illegal surveillance of journalists, threats to their safety & the use of ‘SLAPPs’ - the wealthy & powerful harassing opponents with flawed legal actions

One year ago Stormont returned to much fanfare and positive words. Today we have seen little of that positivity translate into meaningful action.

Successful (and fun) SDLP Dublin reception marking the new Dáil term last night, thanks to dozens of new & returning TDs who popped in to catch up & look forward. And thanks @BrIreCham for hosting me, @MatthewOToole2 & business leaders at an all-Island economy roundtable today

🥳 HEADLINE ACT ANNOUNCEMENT ✨ We're so excited to announce that Lady Gaga: Perfect Illusion will be joining us to celebrate Omagh Pride 2025!! Join us on 14 June for a celebration of rural queer joy! 💕

Happy January pay day to all those who celebrate

It's been nearly a fortnight since the NI Executive refused to release the evidence for their decision on puberty blockers on the basis of it "not being in the public interest" with no further public noise being made by any of the parties involved in that enterprise.

Did you see our coverage in the local papers a couple of weeks ago? 👀 Really excited for Pride day on 14 June! 🥳🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Oh my god #TheTraitors

SDLP Leader @clairehanna.bsky.social MP has secured a Westminster inquiry into press freedoms in NI. “It has never been more important to protect journalists who work daily to hold government accountable, expose corruption and speak truth to power." Read more: www.irishnews.com/news/norther...
