I went back to my log and logged at what I did a month ago. I did 1 km in 15+ minutes. I have progressed a lot. Just not as much as I'd like.

Google Street View will be useful to add and check features. But I'm not sure how much work I want to do. It looks like it would be enough for some fun training without much more work.

Lidar is available for most of the U.S. I got the other features from the City of Minneapolis. Most cities have similar data, but many are not easily accessible. Minneapolis also has data on individual trees, street lights, and signs. I may use some of that data.

I did a lot of orienteering in the late 1980s on Swedish maps that are close to those simplified Norwegian maps. I miss how readable those maps were.
