Proud Husband and Father. Might just be a really tall Gnome. He/Him "Human Rights For All Humans" shouldn't be a divisive statement. History doesn't repeat, but it's starting to rhyme uncomfortably closely. True North Strong And Free. Slava Ukrani

Trains are an incredible way to learn about how big the world really is. I've covered a lot of Canada by train and it is amazing. I don't fly unless there's an ocean I need to cross.

Artificial Intelligence is beginning to eclipse Natural Stupidity.

hmm, maybe my teens are just counselling me to eat fibre when they tell me I'm full of crap. Yes, that must be it.

Thank you, I was unaware. Fun Fact, literally.

...I'm still grappling with the knowledge that 4 billion of those same humans are dumber than I am if I am as average as I dread I am. I cannot currently process this level of disappointment, I'll get back to you when I have the resources to do so.

Half an hour of elbow grease and a potato peeler and we all look exactly the same. I'm sorry about how graphic that is, but differences are really just little things to celebrate. Minor changes to keep us all from getting bored with our own species. People Get To EXIST.

If I can stomach that 4 bloody BILLION people on this planet are dumber than a guy who occasionally forgets his keys in the goddamned FRIDGE, then as a species we can damned well accept that people get to bloody EXIST. Short people, Tall people, Gay people, Black people, It. Does. Not. Matter.

I donate to political groups, I donate to charities (support your local foodbanks! And your local libraries!) I march in protests, I volunteer... but damnit, we need to get past this. People get to exist. They do. Even the ones we don't like. They get to eat. They get to be safe. Yes, them too.

Genocides, terrorist attacks, authoritarian oppression... And yes, I *know* there's no Golden Age when this didn't happen and that "Nature is Red of Tooth and Claw", thank you. What frustrates me is how many people I talk to that simply shrug and move on.

I know it's not really a new thing, I've heard "walking while Black" or similar insanities my whole life from folks around me. I know my privilege is showing, but I cannot tell you how many times tonight I've wanted to literally scream "Human Rights for All Humans" into my screen.

In my world (software dev) an "Alpha" is an absolutely minimal proof-of-concept held together by duct tape, glue, and hope. They aren't feature-complete and are generally unsuitable for anything. Seems to fit pretty well.

He can either sense evil or smell incompetence. Possibly both? Maybe it's the backpfeifengesicht? Hard to say.

Thankfully (sort of?) The fatality appears to be the bomber themselves. I'm actually *almost* accepting of it if they wanted to blow themselves up far away from anyone else that could get hurt. I wouldn't like it, but my opinion wouldn't be relevant.

Mind boggling.

My wife was declined for a hysterectomy for a decade, with one doc *asking me* if I was ok with this. I was angry, what the hell did I know about having a uterus? Since then I've seen her and my mother treated as unreliable narrators of their own lives. I'm embarrassed I didn't see it earlier.

Casual racism does some of the heavy lifting there too and is equally disgusting.

This. Exactly this. I know my kids are better people than I am explicitly because of the number of "holy crap Dad, that's terrible!" comments about things I never noticed. I grew up in what I thought was a very progressive area, was a theater kid, etc.

🤷 I'm not honestly sure. I think I'm a work in progress. I have 4 teenagers who don't let me get away with much and are certainly better people than I am. They accept people by reflex, I still have to consciously make an effort some days.

As a too-often mediocre white guy it's damned disappointing how few people call me out for my own obliviousness and I'm actually *trying* not to be an idiot. That's why diversity of experience is needed everywhere. Blindspots are different for every demographic.

Agreed. "Human Rights For All Humans" should not be a controversial position.

The problem there is that a guy who will make that kind of blunder is very likely immune to the shame that comes with it. I make plenty of blunders, but I won't make THAT one :)

I've deliberately selected women as members of my dev team when both candidates were equally qualified (as nearly as I could determine) for an additional reason: Diversity of experience. Different backgrounds give different ideas, even if the skills are at parity.

I've heard of this but the closest I've seen personally was a vendor forwarding my boss (who was a woman) an email she wrote as "support" for his position. His reading comprehension was so bad he failed to recognise it wasn't saying what he thought it was and "Chris" was short for "Christine".

may not BE. Oy. I need a dog.

Sounds like you worked with a good dude. Just as an aside, it is *delightful* to be the guy in tech saying "as She said..." because while all assholes may not misogynists, all misogynists are assholes. (also No, I will not ignore your dog, they appear to be wonderful.)
