It is so reminiscent of when Franklin D. Roosevelt and Henry Wallace ambushed Winston Churchill in the Oval Office, made fun of his wartime blue romper and said they wouldn't go negative on Chancellor Hitler, and told him he might have a country left....Oh, right.

Winston Churchill visiting the WH in 1942. Not wearing a suit

According to David Folkenflik Folkenflik.bsky.social NPR's media reorter, more than 75,000 Washington Post subscribers have canceled their subscibers since owner Jeff Bezos overhauled its opinion sections, sparking criticism that he is shaping the Post to appease Trump. www.npr.org/2025/02/28/n...

This is what you get when you have a cabinet of unapologetic rapists who will gaslight and assault victims, use their attire as an excuse for how they are being treated, and then force them to say thank you.

“Mr President, you’ve lost the Telegraph editorial page”

"Trump and Vance have revealed to Americans and to America’s allies their alignment with Russia, and their animosity toward Ukraine in general and its president in particular...The national-security system of the West is led by 2 men...who deeply sympathize with the world’s most aggressive dictator"

there's gonna be an easily-spotted divide between the people who stupidly think zelenskyy was the one who was humiliated in that meeting and the folks who know it was trump and vance

Did they ask Elon Musk that question?

It’s nice how they’ve replicated the middle school dynamic of the insecure bully and his sniveling sidekick picking on someone surrounded by a circle of scared little boys who also try to talk shit so the bully doesn’t come after them. Or as the right calls it, “masculinity.”

I am disgusted

This was a disgusting display by the soft, uninformed VP Vance trying to school Zelensky, the man who has led his country through the most surprisingly resilient and effective fight for sovereignty against a global superpower. Every negative stereotype about America is confirmed in this exchange.

Vance goes on to spout Russian talking points to President country who was invaded by Russia. Zelenskyy is not the one disrespecting the Oval Office here.

America is not Russia and any comparisons risk going too far. But for those of us who reported there, Trump’s Washington is bringing back memories of Putin’s Moscow in the early days. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/26/u...

Weird to have your boss tell you that you have to write about personal liberties

An exceptional talk by Kate Starbird at UW. She has worked on disinformation in social media for many years, and she fits this talk well into current events. I have never attended an academic talk before where the audience erupted into a spontaneous ovation at the end. Well worth the watch.

“The historical record shows that when people are hesitant to move or change jobs, productivity falls, innovation declines, living standards stagnate, inequality rises, and social mobility craters.” @theatlantic.com www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

They also might have considered the double entendre of "row", the other meaning being really quite accurate.

“classified information, links, or attachments” is a poorly constructed and dizzyingly incomplete list.

This seems like a phisher's dream. Announcing that a government email is about to go out and that recipients are required to respond to it seems like the kind of thing cybercriminals would love to spoof in order to infect workers or trick them into revealing their login credentials.

Costco and Trader Joes are yin and yang. Together they form a harmonious balance. One sells big piles of normal food, the other sells small piles of weird food. These are the two food piles people need

"U.S. negotiators pressing Kyiv for access to Ukraine's critical minerals have raised the possibility of cutting the country's access to Elon Musk's vital Starlink satellite internet system, three sources familiar with the matter told Reuters."

I wrote about how particularly ridiculous it is that Senate Democrats, led by Dick Durbin, think the priority should be repealing Section 230 and undermining the very open internet we need more than ever right now. www.techdirt.com/2025/02/21/w...

"Donald Trump and Elon Musk never believed in anyone’s free speech except their own," David A. Graham writes in the Atlantic Daily:

Elon Musk says he's going to "fix" X's community notes system because he disagrees with a note on President Trump's claim that Zelensky has a 4% approval rating in Ukraine. Musk also claims community notes are "being gamed by governments & legacy media", but provides no evidence for that claim.

Zelenskyy says Trump 'lives in disinformation bubble' with discord sowed by Russia www.theguardian.com/world/live/2...

With this EO, Trump is explicitly seizing control of agencies meant to operate free from presidential interference, such as the FCC, FTC, FEC and financial regulators. Now any new regulations must go through the White House. Monumental change here. www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

We need Pete Buttigieg as a clear messenger, more than ever.

Yeah, this is pretty obvious but worth stressing. Also, the idea that techbro coders with no experience in government are best able to identify and root out “fraud” is laughable

"There was also no opposition." Holy shit, read a book.

Why is most US media still treating recent events as "normal"? Here's my take: "Day after passing day, it was clear that even if the US and its $27 trillion economy was not exactly tipping post-coup into a full authoritarian state, then it had at least firmly slipped into banana republic territory."

seems like it is a big deal that the unifying ideology of the doge team is neo nazism

Our country is going to be destroyed by morons.

National Press Club takes a stand against the Trump White House for banishing AP because it won't parrot "Gulf of America" nonsense.

Agree. Fuck access. This is a perfectly fine hill for the AP to die on www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

My God this is so fucking STUPID www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Even more important than not complying in advance is not complying at all. Saying no is incredibly powerful, it gives others courage to do the same, and stops the lies in their tracks.

Following a White House anti-DEI order, the National Cryptologic Museum covered up exhibits of women and people of color in its Hall of Honor. The NSA reversed course after former employees mobilized.

“When the truth offends, we lie and lie until we can no longer remember it is even there, but it is still there. Every lie we tell incurs a debt to the truth. Sooner or later, that debt is paid.” - Valery Legasov

I miss being bored by the government news cycle
