Today's #CID: 🧪 breaks with past ambitions on chemicals 🏭 deepens EU commitment to false climate solutions 💶 gives billions to the most polluting industries via State aid & EU funds ⚖️ amends laws to suit industry's agenda ✂️ weakens recently adopted laws in deregulation drive

What could European industrial policy look like? ❌ Not wasting billions on corporate welfare & false solutions ✅ rapid phase-out of fossil fuels; just transition ✅ Regulations for safer & cleaner production ✅ strong social & environmental conditionalities in public procurement & State aid

The CID was presented in Antwerp, the biggest petchem hub in EU, together with a plan of drastic deregulation #Omnibus Invited: 🏭300+ industry CEOs Not invited: 👥 civil society & communities impacted by #PFAS pollution caused by the chem industry A clear sign of corporate capture!

❌📉 Let's call the Omnibus package what it actually is: deregulation. Without mandatory sustainability disclosure, investors will be left in the dark when seeking returns that benefit both people and the planet—contradicting the Commission’s aim to mobilise private capital for climate transition.

Corporate lobby firepower is yielding results Big Polluters have held huge sway over the Commission's plans for an aggressive #deregulation agenda & today's #CleanIndustrialDeal which promotes false solutions to climate crisis & abandons de-toxification agenda corporateeurope.org/en/2025/02/e...

At the same time, the EU’s competitiveness frenzy has opened the door to corporate lobbying. ⚠️ Big Tech is using the political momentum and its massive lobby resources to further water down the AI Act. corporateeurope.org/en/2025/01/d...

Tech companies have successfully weaponised the Trump administration against rules on content moderation, data privacy, and market power. 🚫 The EU should resist Big Tech bullying. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/j...

The Clean Industrial Deal will commit large amounts of public money to CCS and hydrogen (esp via ‘de-risking’). Ten years ago, CCS was thought to be dead and buried, yet now is eligible for billions in subsidies thanks to lobbying from Shell and its trade association FuelsEurope. 4/6

The European Green Deal + the EU’s Green Deal Industrial Plan for a Net Zero Age already had the fingerprints of the fossil fuel industry and other big polluters all over it, allowing more false solutions like gas, carbon markets, CCS and hydrogen. All feature in the #CleanIndustrialDeal. 2/6

In two days time, European Commission President von der Leyen will go to Antwerp to outline the EU's corporate friendly Clean Industrial Deal. And with corporate spending at record levels, it’s no surprise that industry’s demands are shaping EU policy. corporateeurope.org/en/2025/02/e...

📈Yearly increase: There has been an overall 13% increase compared to the same time last year 💸 Five-year growth: Since 2020, these corporate interests have declared nearly €86 million more, marking a 1/3 increase over 5 years But these figures are likely to be substantial underestimates
