#Evol2025 was for me maybe the most important meeting I have ever been to. My science will be drastically improved by my interactions over the past week. It was bittersweet due to the current situation and the people who weren't there, but I'm optimistic that we are strong enough to overcome this.

Another day testing the limits of resilience. The Alexandria NSF building was designed for the NSF merit review process (gold standard), complete with a floor devoted to panels. Now we aren’t allowed to have in person panels. The loss of US science leadership will haunt this country for decades.

Just want to point out here that many departments with low enrollments are considered "service" departments. For example: at a lot of schools, most students in chemistry classes are biology majors (often with a pre-health focus), or nursing students.

NEW: NSF will be kicked out of their building. Announcement will be made tomorrow by HUD Sec. and Governor of VA. HUD will take over the NSF building over the next two years. NSF staffer: "There is no planning for NSF, no identified future location, appropriation for a new building or a move."
