The infrastructure of left-liberal politics was once large: union & party newspapers; journals and pamphlets; meetings to learn about this, that & the other; libraries; clubs etc. That's all been killed off as parties professionalised & centralised. The Radical Right has rebuilt all of that online.

I am thinking that there is also something about class always having been a cultural divide but an inherited, entitled one. Cultural inequality, pure and simple (if it can ever be that) has a more agile, faster dynamic.

Of course, a big question is whether the framework will lead to real change at a time when budgets are being slashed even further, and regulators reduced to a shell of their former selves. We're seeing something close to the administrative collapse of rural policy and environmental protection.
