This is the lede. There is a woman on camera in charge of a lot of people with guns. She says they are going to liberate a domestic population center from democratically elected officials and violate too many laws to count in the process. I have zero time for anything else.

When a cabinet member announces "We are using the military to liberate an American city from its elected leaders," where do you go from there. What is left to say. The idea of that being anything short of a near-universal "Wait, what the fuck is going on" moment proves how far we've backslid.

Both sides

ICE deliberately rammed, then teargassed and pointed guns at a car containing an infant and a toddler. They were driving unmarked vehicles and there's no indication that they made any kind of signal to stop before ramming them. Not that it should matter, but everyone in the car was a US citizen.

You have no obligation to defend or explain the behavior of random street protesters. We have a lawless government that is flagrantly violating its legal, moral, even philosophical obligations to us. Everything else is secondary

Both police and Gavin Newsom with a straight face push conspiracy theories of "professional protesters" who "go from one unrest to the other," while hundreds of literal military troops are being shipped into a city to shoot weapons at working-class people standing up for their neighbors.

“Why oh why couldn’t I remain peaceful” I say as a cop cracks my skull open for singing koombaya

Putting up a fierce fight at the opening of the poem is the way to stop the rest of the poem from coming true. The fight for migrants and to stop ICE is the same fight as the fight to protect LGBT people (citizens or not), reproductive autonomy, and everyone else the fascists want to fuck with.

Breaking: Men officially deemed too emotional for positions of power

"Women need to be protected from men" isn't actually feminism it's the basis of patriarchy. Patriarchy offers to "protect women" from its own violence if they submit to patriarchal power and authority, that's just how the system works Moreover, ICE must be destroyed

It’s Mary Anning’s birthday, so time to share @katebeaton.bsky.social’s brilliant cartoon again.

Interviewer: Can you explain this gap in your resume? Premodern Gender Historian: Almost all surviving sources about that period are from elite men. I certainly was doing work then but it was not considered important or relevant by the chroniclers or may have been in perishable foods or textiles.

As a Canadian I have to say it’s kinda surreal to log onto Bluesky and regularly be greeted by a wall of horrifying new updates from American users about their country’s descent into fascism
