On the other hand that sounds like exactly how non-tech-literate people use Google Search. Like I have seen so many borderline paragraph google search queries.

With this update, folks building custom feeds can leverage moderation actions from the whole network more easily in their algorithms. 🤖 Wanna exclude twitter screenshots, transphobia, AND anti-blackness from your feed? rsky-relay is now a one-stop-shop for all of those labels. 🛍️

My read is "the only feed most people see" is the traditional news. Television and the big papers.

I wonder if this is like reddit where it feels empty if you don't seed your acct with enough subreddits to draw from. Maybe an "/r/all equivalent" feed (i.e. a random sampling of the last 24-72 hours of the firehose) would help? But that still falls into the same leading-horse-to-water trap...

Okay actually I gotta temporarily back down my claim after some experiments. Bluesky doesn't let you upload SVGs due to the app not handling them properly but if you do upload via other magic methods, it works perfectly. Currently poking around to see how hard it would be to make it work properly.
comment in response to post
try uploading it as an SVG instead. Bluesky seems to quietly support SVG vector graphics and they generally come out the other side super crisp (although even though the underlying SVG is being hosted, the site still renders it as an JPEG).

I mean I already use a 3rd party client and appview. And this acct is still on a mushroom PDS because I haven't needed to move mine yet. If I needed to, I'd do it in a heartbeat. But also I'm not screaming at bsky to change their policy rn. If I was, I would do exactly as I said.

Begging the bleeding heart rage posters to learn the diff between bluesky the social media & Bluesky PBLLC the corp... Don't like acct takedowns? Host a PDS and help these people join it instead Don't like mod labels? Push your followers to 3rd party appviews Or just bitch and do nothing I guess?

I think some of the noise is also that the minimum metric is "likers", i.e. liking a post. NGL I have to make a conscious effort to like/RT stuff Maybe PDS should optionally emit a regular "daily active accts" event counting all the dids from that PDS that hit their xrpc per lexicon in the last 24h

It's because trans and gender (stereotype) non conforming people are the epitome of "the world is more complicated than I understand" and they desperately want to reduce that down to perfect black and white lines that are compatible with their worldview.

Ah yes, the true telltale of LLMs, an compulsive need for proper typesetting.

Oh were they primary objectives? I thought those two were only planned provided everything else had gone as expected (otherwise opting to skip them and just wait for reentry)?
comment in response to post
Its an experimental suborbital flight. Getting to orbit is not included in flight plans until you know the experimental platform can safely perform all basic tasks required for operation including eventual, controlled reentry along a designated reentry path.

Also as I understand it, they didn't even consider a chopstick landing for the reused Super Heavy booster because they were pursuing a much more aggressive reentry plan to gather data at its operational limits (I.e. at conditions that are basically a coin toss for success).
comment in response to post
Didn't Starship test 9 (this launch) achieve all primary objectives? My understanding is that SpaceX stated that they anticipated everything up to & including SECO to succeed and everything after that were secondary objectives with lower confidence intervals for success.

There is though. The limit on payload size followed by cost are the main limitations for scientific instruments. JWST was a herculean effort because it needed to fit in a tiny launch package compared to the expanded/unpacked size Larger cheaper payloads means better, cheaper space & climate science

Oh hell yes. Will this mean we'll be able to repost or quote repost entire threads now?

Its worth noting that NFTs are used for a lot of things in the cryptocurrency space and only a very small subset of those things involve speculation. NFT is literally just a non fungible token, I.e. any token that is not fungible/not indistinguishable as a currency. That is a really wide umbrella.

announcement github.com/bluesky-social…
comment in response to post
Oh fun. Are there any changes to how threads are being encoded/stored or does this new API just change thread submission/ingestion?
comment in response to post
If you use deer.social or most any other 3rd party client you can normally just turn it off in the settings. On deer.social it's under the "Deer" settings page.

How do I sit? Ive had this one for like a decade+ now.

sorry for that infodump that was probably completely unnecessary. I'm kinda ADHDing hard today

- and the whole AI thing is a mess. if AI has copyright but isn't derivative it fucks IP in favor of corpos forever. My take is that AI creations should not have copyright at all but can be used in copyrighted works and can despite not having copyright can still be seen as derivative of other works.
comment in response to post
- trademark/trade dress/IDRs are good to prevent counterfeits/fraud. - copyright lasts too long but idk I think it has it's place if it was shorter. especially copyleft. Like idk limit copyright to the original 14/28 years but limit permissive and copyleft rights to 50 years instead.
comment in response to post
lmao. I'm in this weird spot where idk how I feel about IP. - Patents are bad but I'm not opposed to a special niche for patentlefts/patent commons (ex: deriving from a patentleft within the patentleft duration requires the result be made public as well).

Where in that thread was Singal mentioned in an on-topic way (i.e. not "hey you're one of those bluesky people and remember when yall didn't ban Singal")?
comment in response to post
Its been explained several times how they are generally relevant which I am already fully aware of. Not how they were relevant to that specific conversation. Those are two separate things. When was Singal brought up in the thread in a way that was on topic to the conversation of the thread?
comment in response to post
I don't get the toxicity? They weren't relevant to the specific conversation in that thread. A thread which was in response to their trans coworker discussing being constantly bombarded with "kys" over and over again You can debate Singal's general relevance but in thread his mention was off-topic.
comment in response to post
Yeah the issue is when a right wing POS gets hit with kys they wear it as a badge of honor. When we get hit with it or some rando who walked into discourse, those hits build up quick.
comment in response to post
Yeah the liberal campaign and vote approach is pretty DOA. Leftist organising, joining up with or starting local groups, demonstrating, and causing "good trouble" IRL (or online via hactivism) is really the only path forward.
comment in response to post
Nah I don't actually think that's fair. Especially because I've seen so many liberals say absolutely fucking egregious kys-esque shit to palestinians, trans people, any other minority, & allies of all of the above There's a whole lot of shitty "kys" behaviour on all fronts that I've personally seen
comment in response to post
I mean my whole stance on the "telling people to kys" thing is that its shitty and unproductive. It doesn't actually achieve anything. I don't think some hypothetical global banhammer should strike people down for saying it but I still think its a shitty and unproductive thing to say.
comment in response to post
I mean personally I'm on board with that.

Sure but at least on 3rd party clients you generally have to subscribe to the bluesky labeler as well. I'd rather support community mod services like skywatch or blacksky and let bluesky's labeler fade into obscurity tbh.
comment in response to post
I mean idk what your view looks like but my view of his page is a wall of hide/warn labels and "blocked by x list" tags.
