I believe the player trading model is more about age; cost of initial contract (so you can raise the deal if need be in the 2nd contract) and current ability with potential improvement. Not so much the fee to buy the player itself.

I think this scenario is slightly different. We got the chance to look at Edouard for 6 months before we spent the money. I do really want us to sign him though.

Doak isn’t ripping it up at the top level either, he’s on loan at Middlesborough.
My point is more the fact that should youths leave us at the crossroads from youth into proper professional (and more often than not they are) we will never know if they would play in the 1st team.
