Not a type but a theme: Moon Badge. Team is Lunatone, Clefable, Umbreon, Ursaluna. The latter would all have poor movesets to counterbalance their evolved stats + give the player an implicit lesson about not evolving their pokemon too early, so they can benefit from their early stage learnsets.

This is how I was sold on it years ago. Between all the weapon types and crafting and upgrade trees and other subsystems, Monster Hunter is like 10 diff games and if you are good at a couple or decent at half, then you are good at Monster Hunter.

One of the biggest things that made me better at winning games of all kinds was understanding the difference between "playing to win" vs "playing not to lose". A gamble with only a 50% chance to pay off is actually a safer play than a series of surer bets which won't earn you enough to win the game.

Kind of a cross between mechanics/world, what you might call the vibes I guess? Like for my Hades-inspired game it started as wanting to bottle the feeling of concocting absurd character builds to commit high-octane violence while the gods watch, in a setting where death doesn't matter.

Writing a restriction like this is like a designer peeling back the curtain and taking most of the set with it. Tho I AM amused at the idea of a game where every character has a precisely listed number of times theyre allowed to be narratively impactful, and when they run out the session just ends.

Went 4-3 in the tourney! Deck performed as I expected, but turns out what I expected wasn't v good.
