This is why I've started platform.openmeet.net. I want anyone to be able to create groups and host events for free, and not be data harvested and sold like facebook groups.
We recently got bluesky working as the source of truth for events.

Yes indeed. Currently planning on using this lexicon, which is open for comment at github.com/lexicon-comm... .

That's where we'll start. We're currently aggregating events, and using a website to manipulate the index. Soon to be using PDS to store events and use them as the source of truth, if you're a bluesky user.

I'll take a look. Building a meetup replacement, and going to integrate with AT protocol. Thanks for doing this.

Communities ought to be able to outlive the platform.

We're building something similar that started as a meetup replacement at openmeet.net. With the uptake of AT, we're in the process of learning what it would take to shift to the AT model.
We've got some integration now just for auth and creating events from bsky posts that is in test.

Nothing stops them right now, and I invite you to do so. The important part for us is getting people together more and grinding down loneliness. We'll even host an instance for you, or support your own installation. Also, planning federation for instances.

luma is missing features around community organizing, group goal funding, and it's closed source. It's great for event organizing today, but I we need something that won't go away because of a business decision like at meetup.

Starting on github.com/OpenMeet-Tea... tomorrow unless some wild person wants to try adding it. It's a nestjs app and a quasar framework frontend.

Try listing your hackathon at platform.openmeet.net? We're looking to help support community events for free.

Just a random drop in. I'm creating an opensource meetup.com replacement at platform.openmeet.net . Meets are free to create and help others know when and where it is happening. Have fun getting together, y'all.

Random drop in: I'm developing a Meetup.com replacement. Do you need help letting folks know when and where to meet for free? Try openmeet.net and let me know any feedback... it is still in development.

Ah! it does feel like time to have some Bob time.

It's a simple ask: "Will you test that?". I'm just impressed with how hard it is to implement well. Enough so, that I decided not to implement it and took the hit to my iteration speed. Trade-oofs

Spent awhile trying to get local oauth2 testing working. Ouch! Ended up with a slow iteration deploying to a remote dev env for testing. Fixing that would be a dev UX win.
