Good BBC article on the future of AI and Google. Extra good because it quotes me. Extra extra good because it links to my site. Extra extra extra good that it’s a followed link. www.bbc.co.uk/future/artic...

Would love to get someone who is working in machine learning/deep learning, or ideally, working on building LLMs to talk on the Search with Candour podcast with @jlwchambers.bsky.social. Let's give the actual experts the mic for a bit! 🎙️ If you know anyone, please tag them! ⤵️

I think you could sum up the recent media coverage of bluesky with “our boss’ revenue might be at risk if people actually care about stuff and articulate that at a large scale” A bit like the backlash to working from home.

Do users really show higher intent when they click through from an LLM to a website? Spoiler: No. LLM traffic converts at similar rates as Google organic traffic. But LLMs send a lot less traffic to sites as a percentage of usage... salt.agency/blog/do-user...

Heads-up, this should jump the traffic levels in GA4 and other analytics tools for #ChatGPT. That's because ChatGPT finally added utm parameters for "More" sources versus just the citations. Those links used to be standard links without utm parameters. Now they contain utm_source=chatgpt. #seo #ai

Damn. Ads are getting vindictive these days. Poor old Grant. Why does he have to go cold?

Went to watch The Ballad of Wallis Island at the weekend 🎦 It's a terrific British comedy. Tim Key is great as the wonderfully irritating (yet very loveable) millionaire and Carey Mulligan utterly convincing as the gracefully aged folk rock star. But Tom Basden as a writer, actor and musician 😮

People are asking: what the heck is Google’s new “People are asking” feature on Google Business Profiles? Last week, @claudiatomina.bsky.social and @damianrollison.bsky.social shared about this new feature they’re seeing on certain businesses. #LocalSEO #SEO (1/5)

Interesting to see how frequently these two contradictory pieces of advice seem to appear in new guidance about AI search.

“Anybody who thinks LLMs are a direct route to the sort [of] AGI that could fundamentally transform society for the good is kidding themselves.” www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

Fitting for today’s cat fight.

Reminds me of the use patterns that drove Twitter to prioritize/manufacture engagement through its algorithms in the pre-Elon days.

This needs a wider audience: www.linkedin.com/posts/sam-be... The sorts of baked-in biases in systems that Sam points out should not be a thing in 2025. Rather than 'make the logo rainbow' for a month, companies should spend the time to fix these issues.

And the increase in folks (legitimately) criticising #Google continues. It's not just those in SEO circles that are finding the SERPs increasingly filled with junk and questioning Google's motivations. 👇

What can SEOs learn from smelly farts on a Monday? * it's fine not having results for internal searches * empty search results pages should return 404 * you can also just block internal search from indexing with robots.txt or noindex

Always a move I love making.

Next week, I'll be hosting an all-star SEO panel of @chris-green.net, @dawnieando.bsky.social, @myriam.dopamine.builders & @jono.id to discuss tracking data from AI Overviews & AI Mode! Does Google owe us this data? Was this a mistake that they'll fix? Do clicks & impressions even matter anymore?!
