It's honestly kind of insane to me that the people who decry subsidies and how things like first time homebuyer programs just increase prices line up straight behind one of the most insane ways to waste public money while getting worse outcomes.

Biggest upzoning in American history for now

The biggest failure of Texas is that of focus. If we, as a people, just focussed for a few years on really committing to a strong vision of the future we'd leave any other competition in the dust. Half measures and culture war distractions have been so extraordinarily damaging to the state

I continue to be somewhat amazed and confounded by the role Texas plays in political discussions. Less a real place where real people live and more a metaphysical object to be rebuked or idolized by people who know less than nothing of the state

I don't know how we could even start to fix this problem but the current system of low cost and subsidized housing is way too hard to navigate and biased towards people with insider connections

“I never thought I’d have a pope like this in my lifetime,” a priest I know told me. “It must be divine providence, I can’t think of any other explanation.” I wrote about Pope Francis. www.vanityfair.com/news/story/p...

Big fan of the new episode of @jackcraver.bsky.social's podcast ft. @vanessaforatx.bsky.social - urban-affairs.simplecast.com/episodes/van.... Especially loved the discussion around how she engages with her constituents and why Republicans have been gaining ground with Latinos

What Cambridge has done here is outline an incredible middle path where we can build Parisian missing middle density city wide. I think Austin can learn a lot from this, building out starter home friendly units in a way that fits easily into existing neighborhoods

Just received this photo from a friend of a warehouse in Kinshasa. These are tuberculosis medications--ALREADY PAID FOR--that aren't being distributed due to the Trump Administration's stop work order. TB treatment is being interrupted in SO many patients around the world. What does that mean? (1/2)

NEW: Trump says he's letting "lifesaving" foreign aid continue, but sources tell WIRED that DOGE is still blocking HIV/AIDS relief. Musk brags he's "feeding USAID into the wood chipper." A USAID worker tell us: “At a minimum, 300 babies that wouldn’t have had HIV now do." By @knibbs.bsky.social
