Some of the best coffee I've had recently is the Huver Castillo–Oxidized Pink Bourbon from B&W. A little pricey but worth it—strong lemon notes, pleasantly acidic, almost wine-like, but then some sweetness comes through. More please! osterman.blog/coffee#huver...

I’m generally uneasy about where AI is going, its effect on labor, creativity, knowledge, and truth, so I decided to block AI bots from my site. Here’s how. osterman.blog/blog-posts/h...

Pro tip: watching My Penguin Friend is a good way to spend part of Valentine's Day sobbing with your loved ones.

I love that @indivisible.org has no X/Twitter logo on their homepage and wish that more orgs would do the same.

Damn: "If no lawyer within earshot of the President is willing to give him that advice, then I expect you will eventually find someone who is enough of a fool, or enough of a coward, to file your motion."

The bullies who beat and mocked me in eighth grade were cruel and stupid. They despised intelligence and worshipped violence, although they would settle for athletic ability. More... https://zeldman.com/2025/02/14/far-from-the-bullying-crowd/

TIL John Cale went to New York to study under John Cage, which is funny because I often mix their names up.

I got my preorder copy the other day and finished it last night! It's quick and fun and I learned a thing or two.

Today I find myself agreeing with Larry Summers www.nytimes.com/2025/02/10/o...

Sometimes I go to bed early so I can get to my morning coffee faster.

This is a very cool and effective scroll-based data explainer. (And perhaps time to change your PIN codes) www.abc.net.au/news/2025-01...

You can now see which value is the active value in min(), max() and clamp() - in Canary DevTools today - coming to Chrome stable soon!

I finally checked out the new la coop coffee shop up on Kennedy St and was a happy customer. Came home with a bag of light roast and am working to perfect my brew. osterman.blog/coffee

Found some unnecessary twitter metadata still sitting around on my web site and it’s always a good time to delete code (*especially* now). Might be worth checking your web sites to see if you can delete it too?

Gotta say: I've been using SvelteKit for personal projects and Vue/Nuxt at work, and SvelteKit is so much more enjoyable. I know lots of folks would disagree, and that's fine. For me, Vue is just to dang complicated and has too many idiosyncratic rules and gotchas . #svelte #sveltekit #vue #nuxt

The USPS has announced that they will be issuing stamps based on the children’s classic Goodnight Moon, written by Margaret Wise Brown, illustrated by Clement Hurd, and first published in 1947. [kottke.org]

Some big flakes in DC! The kids will be wearing their PJs inside out for more on Monday. ❄️❄️☃️

Looks like I'm gonna close out 2024 by pushing `transition-property: content-visibility;` and `transition-behavior: allow-discrete;` to production code, and it feels good! I love me a CSS-only solution.

We need this so much!

TIL: changing background-color, border, or border-radius to a <select> element completely changes its appearance in Safari. Maybe other style declarations have the same effect too? Was hoping for some minor tweaks, trying to avoid full custom. 🤦 #webdev

Do I dare use the Popover API and anchor positioning in production? (Please say yes—it's soooo nice.) #CSS #HTML

ahhhhhhh, this is so cool! Kathryn Cooper's (BlueSky?) superimposed photos of starlings' flight paths. The second one in the article is my favorite. Article: www.thisiscolossal.com/2024/11/kath... Her website: kathryncooperwildlife.com

Anyway here's my most popular meme from the other place. #CSS

I should have a jar on my desk to put 100-dollar bills into every time I try something that I learned doesn't work six months before. Like using CSS custom properties in a container query. 🤦 💵
