Executed is not the same as being dragged through the streets, if you were literal about it. He definitely had no love for USSR: he actually condemned and refused to support the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia, for example. Romanians turned on him for other reasons.

The "leader" you may be referring to was not pro Russian and he was not dragged through the streets. However, Romania does seem to have about 30% of its voters exhibiting MAGA levels of stupidity
