There were no sham elections.

I haven't voted in the 2024 democratic primary. What's that to do with the claim of "sham elections"?

Claims based on lies.

Oh, I see - Google's image search knew the original. Still funny!

Is that genuine or did you create this?

Just one example: There should be a constitutional deadline to name a supreme justice if there is a vacancy. There obviously isn't which enabled the senate to delay the process and deprive a sitting president of the power to follow through. Thus the imbalance of the current SCOTUS.

Unwritten law isn't law. It's "norms" or "customs", but since it's not enforceable, it's not helping one bit with stabilizing a system of governance. A modern constitution should be able to prevent a malicious actor to undermine it, with firm rules in place.

I would argue that unwritten law isn't. Rules that can't be enforced are not law.

The problem is that the entire U.S. government system seems to be relying in major parts on unwritten norms, a.k.a. good manners, as opposed to firm rules.

That's what train testers do, apparently. Still, I want that job ...

Should be "cowed", not "cowing".

I don't see the checks & balances working. Media are mostly cowing, the jurisdiction is overwhelmed by the wave of mostly illegal EOs, there seems to be hardly any federal workplace protection from unwarranted firings. The whole system relies on good manners and tradition. It's dangerously fragile.

The priorities appear to be somewhat ... different, it seems.

'“Who right now would want to work on a case that would get them crosswise with the administration?” one former FBI official asked. “They will come after you.”' Mission accomplished. Orbanization on the way.

There seems to be an issue with your NJ UFO thread on X. It's not possible to reply, even for a follower.

. bsky.app/profile/ayan...

The center of gravity for that new far right is Eastern Germany where education (in GDR times) did NOT focus on teaching the Holocaust history. So there is a clear gap there. At 9th grade, our class made a field trip to the Dachau memorial site. It was moving but what we learned was not new to us.

I suppose this is the downside of being an early democracy. The U.S. constitution really could do with a proper overhaul. Those late to the party (like Germany) have an advantage there as their younger constitutions included safeguards based on more recent experiences.

Looks like there is a fundamental flaw in the system - it relies on the administration's good manners and on established customs.
comment in response to post
How are they independent if the administration can just fire them? There seems to be a fundamental flaw in the system if it merely relies on good manners and established customs.
