This is more than just a graphic design issue, itās a full on comms failure.
The lack of visuals to illustrate whatās supposed to be going on here notwithstanding, the words on the website donāt make things any clearer.
Maybe this is a good thing?
Guess Iāll just have to wait to see it IRL.

Yikes! So they came off the MacDonald-Cartier bridge at Dalhousie instead of King Eddy, squeezed the turn down Boteler, somehow turned on Sussex and ended up at Rideau/Wellington by the Chateau Laurier?!! At any point navigating some very tight turns did they think āIāve gone the wrong way hereā?

āDemocratic voters overwhelmingly prefer democracyā would have been a more reassuring headline TBF.

Sparks Street was pedestrianized in the 1960s and, at the time, it was a roaring success.
There are multiple factors that can be attributed to Sparks Street's decline - one of them is the Rideau Centre that got built just down the street in the early '80s.

Pretty sure I can count on one hand the corner stores like this one hanging on downtown (this is Bay/Gloucester)
Iām also not sure camouflaging your business is going to help long term but hey, what do I know.
The sidewalk in front of this business in both pics is also something else.

Agreed! The weird thing is they now appear to be *removing* the grass and tamping gravel down for pavers instead. How much did it cost to put grass down only to remove it a week later?! š¤¦āāļø

I have taken maybe the same Air Transat route (Pearson ā¶ļø Gatwick). Was caught off guard by the complete lack of literally any in flight distractions. Thank the lord I'd only just by chance downloaded a few movies.

Mike Harrisā legacy. This wildly skewed imbalance rural vs urban was forever the desired outcome of amalgamation.

This was a block East on the North side of Rideau. Obviously disappointed the laziness not replacing the pavers but didnāt mind the creativity.
William St is on the South side of Rideau - by the LRT / Scotiabank exit. Itās a high traffic access point to the Market with bad first impression vibes.

This ā¬ļø. On William St (the pedestrianized bit by Aulde Dubliner) there is a drain that is covered by grates that are inscribed with dates in Ottawaās history (it ends at the time capsule on Rideau St)
Year one a grate broke - patched with asphalt. More grates have since broken. Itās now an eyesore.

šÆ Lindsayās assessment of the situation is wildly inaccurate.
That said, Lowertown, Byward Market and Centretown need more supports - housing, mental health and addiction.
In a country as rich as ours itās heartbreaking to see so many folks struggling. We can and should be doing more to help.
