"Given the problems that exist in Buffalo one might wonder why anyone wants to be mayor...No platitudes and generalities accepted; just hard and serious plans to serve the residents of Buffalo." politicsandstuff.com/2025/02/25/s...

Yesterday, @Roots_Action and @wnypeace held a protest at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station to REJECT Trump's plan to use it as a detention site for immigrants. We'll say it again: Immigrants are welcome here! We reject this plan now and always. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/21/u...

"Then came the executive order denying the existence of transgender people. The most powerful government in human history has identified its targets, and somehow my daughter is the bull’s eye. How should I respond?" The one and only answer is solidarity. buffalonews.com/opinion/tran...

The Erie County Democratic Committee’s leadership voted to back state Sen. Sean Ryan, a 13-year veteran of the state Legislature, to be the first newly elected mayor of the city in 20 years during its Saturday meeting.

Public comment is now open for passport gender marker changes. You can go here to go to each of the three proposed passport rules, and submit comment. My suggestion: be unique, argue for trans-inclusive policies, against the constitutionality of the changes, etc. www.reddit.com/r/Passports/...

NY still has closed primaries, which is something that was should all want changed. In the meantime, the deadline to change or update your party affiliation is TOMORROW. This is important b/c you must be registered as a Democrat to participate in this June's Democratic Primary for Buffalo mayor.

“There is a way we approach things in Buffalo that we care about and a way we approach things that we don’t care about." "Clearly, the Kensington project demands the first approach. An environmental impact study will help demonstrate that care." buffalonews.com/opinion/edit...

"We do not want a police precinct to be in that building," said one resident. Out of 60 residents who participated in yesterday's meeting only 1 spoke in favor of the plan to temporarily house the BPD. Acting Mayor: Listen to the ppl. Food access now! www.wgrz.com/article/news...

Acting Mayor Scanlon issued a statement on Thur. night that said the reuse of the building is nearly negotiated. Majority Leader Halton-Pope says she wants to hear from the community, as it should be. We'll be there this afternoon to advocate for food access. You should be too!

Now is the time to prepare, collectively, to go hard.

Leighton Jones, an OCAB spokesperson who shopped at Braymiller, noted that #Buffalo faces a financial crisis. “We’re already broke, why wouldn’t we want to take the money back so we can invest it in something else that could benefit the community?” www.investigativepost.org/2025/02/06/f...

"Police headquarters is a few blocks away. It's a five minute walk. Downtown Buffalo does not have a grocery store now. We need food access, not more police," said Nathan Feist, Our City Action Buffalo member. www.wgrz.com/article/mone...

Nathan Feist is a member of OCAB. After the meeting he said the group will continue to monitor the situation. “We believe that the terms of the loan are clear. Braymiller Market needs to repay the principal plus the interest, because they defaulted the loan.”

The Buffalo Urban Renewal Agency (BURA) must recapture the loan so that the funds can be used to improve food access in Downtown Buffalo, which now lacks a grocery store. BURA will provide an update on the loan at 9:30am today in City Hall, Room 901. See you there! www.wivb.com/news/local-n...

"He [Scanlon] said the city faces a revenue issue caused, in part, because Buffalo has the state’s second-lowest property tax." That's why his campaign contributors, namely real estate developers, need to start paying their fair share immediately. buffalonews.com/news/local/g...

Join Buffalo Common Council Majority Leader Leah M. Halton-Pope for a public meeting to discuss the future of Buffalo's Braymiller Market at the downtown Central Library this Sat., Feb. 8 at 1:30 pm.

THIS WEEK: Buffalo Urban Renewal Agency (BURA) will meet on Thur. 2/6 at 9:30am in Room 901 of City Hall to discuss clawing back the $561k loan it granted to Braymiller. Then on Sat. 2/8 there will be a public hearing to discuss the future of the space. We'll be there, will you?

"We will continue to fight and stand by our communities. We’re not giving up our rights. Solidarity is the most powerful tool for our community to not just survive during this moment, but to thrive and make history." -- @thenyic Buffalo area organizer truthout.org/articles/whe...

"We’re also approaching rapid response from a community lens. How can we build communities to be able to protect each other?" // quote from a Buffalo-area organizer.

Only four candidates have been asked to return for the @ecdems's final mayoral convention on Feb. 18. The candidates are acting mayor Chris Scanlon, state senator Sean Ryan, former fire commissioner Garnell Whitfield, and councilmember Rasheed Wyatt.

There has been speculation since Scanlon took office late last year that he would run in Nov. on the GOP and/or the Conservative lines. He was asked about it this last weekend at the @ecdems forum and was noncommittal. Read more on the exchange here: www.investigativepost.org/2025/01/29/5...

“Students are rightly really concerned – maybe they don’t see what the future is for them, or if they’re Black or Latinx or LGBTQ, they don’t think the country is supportive of them.” Whoever you are and wherever you come from, we've got your back. buffalonews.com/news/local/e...

"In a move that has been anticipated for months, Acting Mayor Chris Scanlon has made official his bid to keep the office he now occupies." Scanlon announces on his 100th day as acting mayor. Share your thoughts! buffalonews.com/news/local/g...

All eyes on the Buffalo mayoral race: Developers and companies doing business with the city are backing Chris Scanlon. Lawyers and labor unions are Sean Ryan's largest contributors. Whitfield and Wyatt are lagging behind on fundraising at the moment. Read more here:

"The role of government is to open doors and to elevate the power of the community." Michael Gainer is the sixth candidate to officially announce their candidacy for mayor. buffalonews.com/news/local/g...
