No amount of human intervention like prescribed burning or putting firefighters on the front lines would make one bit of difference. These fires are climate-driven and are well beyond our control.

There are cases where some tree cutting is appropriate, I’d say. Like cutting an invasive tree before it can take over an ecosystem. The forest science community “foresters” overwhelmingly see forests as something to control and manipulate and like to think they know better than nature.

This area is 10+ miles from the WUI. Plenty of sizable stumps and logging trucks moving through. My point isn’t that there are impacts.. that goes with any extraction activity. It’s that our land management agencies call it ecological restoration.

While certainly not perfect, I believe the Wilderness Idea is one of the most anti-colonial concepts to ever emerge out of our colonial culture. It is quite remarkable if you really think about it. A line in the sand that says, industrial society, you shall progress no further.
