Again, I get why a Colombia postgrad with six figure followings and salaries might not want to work for a business that functions like the CJR, but then please just go in to PR. It's better for you and it's better for society. Rock stars simply aren't wanted here, because it just doesn't work.

Journalism is the only industry I can think of where people regularly describe themselves as public servants but want to essentially be social media rock stars. Six figure salaries and meaningful public service seldom go together. Least of all in this profession. Sorry, they just don't.

We frankly need a journalism model that as it's first lesson drills in to the heads of hopeful future reporters that this industry cannot function well in a for-profit environment and anyone wanting a six figure salary needs to enter PR. This won't end until that day.

It's frankly a politics of resentment that simmers under the entire American body politic, or certain parts of it anyway. It's not entirely unrelated to the cruelty behind the rejection of student debt forgiveness.

I was like "the Moneyball guy who made stats nerds think they know baseball can't possibly disappoint me more". Then I made it to the bit on Ireland where he sets aside 3 paragraphs to attach any and all economic and political responses to immutable characteristics and I said out loud "motherfucker"
