It's a harsh fact of history that many of the leaders who rose to fight fascism were themselves admirers or practitioners of it. Churchill is the major example here (he loved Mussolini and the British Empire). This creates plenty of problems, hello Cold War, but war makes strange bedfellows!

This description makes it seem like the marines peppered the house basically out of nowhere. The description you cite, however, notes that their volley was preceded by a shotgun blast from inside the house. Two very different vibes lol!

ACA is bad law that's benefited immensely from the fact that its loudest critics, or perhaps we might say the critics that get the most airtime, are all insane rightwing ghouls

Wonder how many thousands of jobs these "innovation" campuses will destroy

Why are you bothering with any of this in 2025? Trump doesnt give a shit about the Constitution and neither does anyone in control of the federal government. Your grasping at ash while the flames gather around you.

Did an army boot write this?

Was it exactly the same? No. Obama used the executive branch to drone strike foreigners and citizens, to deport migrants, and to advocate for more police funding. He admin was an integral step towards what we see today, just like every president since FDR.

So much for federalism I guess

Where did you find that its Pinker's podcast? Per the podcast's substack page, he's not listed among the staff.

That would be my first reaction too. But then I wondered, if this doc only gets his news from like NBC or whatever legacy paper, if he even reads the news, where would he learn that AI is dog shit? My sense is that when it's covered at all in those outlets, it's generally more positive 😮‍💨

Where did you get the idea that Obama only or primarily deported criminals?

If this episode of the podcast doesn't end up being 3 hours of dunking, I'm gonna be sad!

And no matter how strongly she supports genocide and mass incarceration!

Just imagine journalists in the 1930s completely uninterested in Nazi infighting and how that might guide policy or influence politics. Bananas!

I loved this one! It's admirable of you to have done this due diligence; creative of you to have turned an error into a fun video; and honorable of you to continue taking public education seriously. Kudos!

Oh hey, I went to school with Elliot! He was a creep back then too!

A 19 November 2024 study of 35 million facebook posts out of Nature Human Behavior concluded that, "...the virality of political content on social media (including misinformation) is driven by superficial processing of headlines and blurbs rather than systematic processing of core content..."

Real bummer that Gunrunner is coming back yet again. It's the least fun trait I've seen in quite a while, just gives players a chance to use full Mosin + full Crown loadouts.

I don't give a shit about Iran. What are you doing about ICE??

I'm really thankful for your recent vid on Nebula. Gave me a ton of context for that Bob's Burgers "oil spill" bit! (And a lot of cool stuff about an era and genre of music with which I have no familiarity <3)

I thought that was the coolest thing in the whole movie and was super bummed that those guys didn't come back to kick ass in the third act!

What's your deep-dive into the data say about NYT reporting on crime over the past few decades and how an over-emphasis on violent crime as an "epidemic" might have pushed politicians into militarizing the police...?

I've only seen Theo Von in short clips that came off as like dirtbag I guess. He's right wing?

And on balance, the evidence in Galileo's day wasn't even decisively in favor of either solar model. His overconfidence and arrogance were vindicated only decades later, and mostly because he'd gone up against the Catholic Church, admittedly a based thing to do

You don't think shitty leftists can hate disabled people?

Immerwahr wrote an excellent book a few years back on US empire. It's sad that he's decided to pivot to peddling conspiricism. Most of the blame here goes to The New Yorker for publishing this piece by an author who is decidedly *not* a subject matter expert in public health or anything related!

Do you think this is a result of framing being trans as a mental illness? Like, that it gives bigots a rhetorical path towards claiming that, "No, actually *we* provide the cure to dysphoria, converting those feelings back towards 'normal' channels," & painting affirming care as "coddling" delusion?
