I will in time change my display name to the one on my passport (starts with Malcolm), but I think that the problem of unaccountability in social media is so damaging that I will persist with my slogan for now.

Not to mention morally bankrupt. Biden with the support of Congress armed Ukraine because it was in US interests. Anyway 59% of funding for Ukraine is not from USA. He is humiliating America because he's so thin-skinned the rest of the world must treat him like a child to avoid angry impulses.

If Ukraine were to agree to surrender mineral rights given related US threat to remove Starlink, then the deal would be extortion which is illegal under US law. Putting emotions aside for solidarity is great advice; Europe and the rest of the world is with you Ukraine, your struggle is righteous.

Righteousness comes from scrutiny & process not individuals.

The hope needs to be that mechanisms develop that militate against media manipulating the least discriminating* in ways that disadvantage them & destroys social cohesion based of ideals like justice. Rupert was just the recent publisher to do it to USA. *Mostly, but not all less educated people.

Trump's blackmail over Ukraine's mineral reserves is openly corrupt exploitation & has no legal basis. The Biden Gov't gave aid subject only to how it was used coz it was in US interests. Trump can stop further aid but congress can restore it because an Independent Ukraine remains in US interests.

Your point about America languishing below the rest of the Anglosphere is valid. Human values that largely evolved from Europe successfully transplanted almost everywhere except where American exceptionalism soured the land and poisoned those that digested it.

Greetings from just below Finland (circa 14000 Km), to you left looking South. In fact we are just below you on HFI too (equal with Iceland) but almost always warmer. Sanna Marin✔️... yes Europe must believe in itself and take its rightful place of leadership and respect in the world.

The ranks of the "just let me be" brigade are always popular. They have little appreciation that their insularity fosters the forces that plot to subjugate them. Irony is; it's to those ranks that the subjugator's supporters flee to when they are forced to accept that their idol has feet of clay.

Trump regime is naive, fickle & dysfunctional, so Europe needs to regard finding unity on their approach as their highest priority. Major forces; Poland, France, Germany, Italy, UK & Spain should commit to unity ASAP so Ukraine has confidence to firmly guide US. Other EU forces will soon join in.

US has a "Now hear this" moment involving their "very stable genius". Raucous laughter around the world has been detected on US Geological Survey equipment, but a combination of resources diverted to rename the Gulf of Mexico & the Musk effect meant a Richter scale reading wasn't available.🙃

An insult to Ukraine, Europe and the free world. American notions of its exceptionalism must surely now crumble under the weight of its economy falling to third place behind China and Europe and the crass arrogance of its ham-fisted nakedly self-interested behaviour on the international stage.

If we believe Russia cannot be provoked over NATO, how do we explain why they cannot invade Ukraine? Europe and Ukraine can of course drive Russia out.

If the main European powers & willing partners get busy organising force on Ukrainian territory, then Zelensky can safely resist Trump's deal-making delusions. This gives Ukraine security and the world comfort that international order will continue while America addresses its political implosion.

If indeed Napoleon did say anything like this it would have been after he commanded that a cannon loaded with grape shot be fired into a crowd of protestors. Good luck America, you elected a delusional buffoon as Commander in Chief.

John Major gave the world the Nolan principles. His credentials as a conservative are impeccable so his comments should be a sharp jolt to GOP members who prevaricate over Congress' duty to put the nation's welfare ahead of party or individual interests. www.gov.uk/government/p...

If Europe wanted to honour the America that saved it from Nazis, then it would take the torch of democratic freedom and lead its army to help Ukraine resist Putin's - While objective America helps the Trump personality cult come to its senses. Would this offend Ken?

America created the Trump problem, while they repair the damage Europe must assume the role of protecting global order.

Cockwombles, what a gloriously apt word for Trump and his sycophants. Europe needs a clear head & the courage to avoid history compiling a humiliating litany of politicians serving their own guesses on political survival rather than serving either Europe or Ukraine. Trump's US is chaotic & nuts.

Excluding Europe is likely more Trumpian self-aggrandisement than American exceptionalism, but it might be a close-run thing. Europe's where war is, what possible argument is there for America under Trump, an avowed admirer of Putin, to be trusted as a mediator? Proven if Putin accepts US.

The world watches on as blind giants dance to a fool's tune. Yet despite threats we see glimpses of the courage of integrity that created the respect America had earned but now sacrifices on the altar of a puerile personality cult.

C'mon Europe, Trump can't impose peace that leaves you exposed unless Ukraine agrees, & they won't do that. Zelenskyy isn't like Trump. With Europe's support Ukraine will win a reliable peace. UK & Canada need to commit coz this is urgent & of global importance. It cannot wait until Trump's gone.

✔️Yvonne What Trump is doing is fast becoming the norm in right-wing conservative (but actually radical when it comes to manipulation) circles. Trump's mass sacking of public servants is akin to terrorism in that it destroys the "speak truth to power" ethic the PS must have. Dutton's 100% danger.

Well said Anton. Europe inc UK & Canada need to show they can create a coalition to perform NATOs role protecting Europe since Trump forbids it. The US veto of NATOs reason for existence must be retaliated or Russia's example of thuggery will haunt the free world long after Trump is gone.

Bravo, Putin has a litany of war crimes to answer for and any nation with self-respect and dignity (especially one that has proven itself a powerful and courageous fighting force) would view his unprovoked invasion as a disqualification to be part of the civilised world. Europe must stand tall.
comment in response to post
More recently the litany of Putin's destabilising terror groups and follow-up wars like the two in Chechnya. Trump openly admires Putin. How Americans who funded the Cold War confrontation that led to the dissolution of the USSR can elect a Putin sycophant is beyond bizarre, into plain nuts.

The American obsession with freedom is at the heart of the myth that a "tooth & claw" economy makes nations great. Australia in 2014; a right-wing gov't sought to hobble law against racial vilification on the basis that "people have a right to be bigots". It failed coz Australia is great.

Clearly Musk's understanding of macro economics is a crucial factor but filling that void offers Americans nothing much unless he first develops an appreciation for why selflessness sits at the top of the Nolan list.
comment in response to post
Trump is more than a loose cannon, his grasp of reality, self-control, dignity, macro economics & statecraft ... all loose to the point of unravelling. Rather than worrying about isolationist self-serving America, EU, China & their rational friends are likely better off isolating from America.
