"Camps." The word you're looking for here is "camps." www.nytimes.com/2025/02/21/u...

This is a terrible move @msnbc.com. Terrible. The @joy.msnbc.com was a critical part of the evening line-up and @joyannreid.bsky.social brings trenchant political analysis that no one else in the evening line-up has brought. I urge you to reconsider this. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/23/b...

DOGE is like if Fyre Festival was a government agency.

Christopher Miller is the Executive Director at Naval Sea Systems Command. VADM James Downey is the commander of Naval Sea Systems Command.

I was set to launch my book at the Carter Library next month. This week, we were told all events now need approval from the National Archives. The next day, my event was forced to relocate. A book about the working homeless. A book about civil rights. Apparently these topics are now off limits.

Hundreds of asylum seekers from around the globe are being trapped by the US in a Panama hotel where they'll eventually be sent to a camp in the jungle. One Chinese man said “I thought: America is a free country with respect for human rights. I had no idea it was like a dictatorship.”

The University of Liverpool has become the latest higher education establishment in the region to look at cutting staff numbers amid a financial crisis for the sector. The Russell Group university wrote to all staff last week to inform them that a Voluntary Leavers Scheme will be launched this week

The new world order is exactly what it looks like. Are we too frozen with fear to name it? | Zoe Williams

This is what higher ed administrators are reading this weekend. Basically, anything that could be perceived as involving race could result in the loss of federal funding. It's an expansive Dear Colleague letter from ED, to be sure. www.ed.gov/media/docume...

NEW: Marocco has tried shutting down nearly all USAID programs & freezing foreign aid. He’s led the charge to place nearly all USAID staff on administrative leave. Officials said they see the move as retribution against those who opposed his earlier work. By @annamaria.bsky.social + Brett Murphy

I'm going to post this video every day so we never forget what Trump did.

Among the most commonly accepted and yet utterly baseless political theories out there is the idea that you can "satisfy" nativist urges by giving into some of their demands. How much history do you need to refute this?

One enduring problem with the American electorate is how millions of people convinced themselves the government plays no role in their economic situation except to tax and to hinder them while giving money to undeserving people.

“We must especially beware of that small group of selfish men who would clip the wings of the American eagle in order to feather their own nests.” -FDR, 1941

I’m in Munich and people keep asking me to decode Vance’s speech. OK: In Vance English “free speech” means “Let Musk run your elections” and “democracy” means “let Russia run your elections.” Now move on. 2025 is about what Europeans do, not what Americans say.

So let me get this straight...Trump can raise an armed force that operates outside of the DoD/DEA/ATF structures to do actions that Trump wants them to do? This seems very wrong. Like he can build his own little enforcer militia?

“CISA will pause all elections security activities until the completion of this review,” Bean added. The agency is also cutting off funding for these activities” electionlawblog.org?p=148644

Do you work in the forest service in Appalachia (and/or are you directly affected by layoffs/hiring freezes?) hit me up on signal at Katie.431

As Voltaire said, incantations will destroy a flock of sheep if administered with a certain quantity of arsenic.

Culling the herd, but perhaps not in the way many ppl had in mind.

Gutting the CDC right as we’re on the cusp of major outbreaks of transmissible diseases is a very bad idea.

I'm told the noise at the end was three people clapping. They were all in Vance's entourage. The US is now both pariah and pitiful on the international stage.

This comment on r/fednews really stood out to me. Trump and Musk want people to think they're firing do-nothing "bureaucrats," but they're really getting rid of people dedicated to serving this country and keeping it operational. I hope these stories get told.

Keep this in mind when you hear JD Vance talk about how "moved" he was by his trip to Dachau.

👀 "If no lawyer within earshot of the President is willing to give him that advice, then I expect you will eventually find someone who is enough of a fool, or enough of a coward, to file your motion. But it was never going to be me." -- AUSA Hagan Scotten, SDNY.

I reviewed "Neural Networks" by @ranjodhdhaliwal.com, Théo LePage-Richer, & Lucy Suchman for @criticalai-journal.bsky.social Big thanks to @dan-sinnamon.bsky.social who commissioned it and @pamelakgilbert.bsky.social and Lauren Goodlad, who saw it through criticalai.org/2025/02/11/s...

This seems really significant. The Judge will want to know how the error occurred and who fed the lawyers inaccurate information. Government lawyers are trained to make sure their representations to the court on material matters are truthful and accurate. Judge Kelley is unlikely to be pleased.

Wait, what?

Indirect costs are real costs. Universities are the last non-profit discovery engine in the country, they make societal progress. Gutting IDC shifts discovery to for profit industry and we are all worse for it. #academicsky #highered #research

This is an atrocity. Never thought I’d say this, but dear world attorneys, please let it rain lawsuits. The only thing understood by these monsters is financial consequences. 🎁 www.nytimes.com/2025/02/06/h...

don’t worry, he’ll just release millions of gallons of water in places it won’t help at all

Trump may have pardoned the rioter who viciously attacked officer Michael Fanone on January, but Judge Amy Berman Jackson made a few things clear when she dismissed the case, as she had to:

Daily Dot: “Aaron Gleason, anti-🏳️‍🌈 writer who accused queer people of ‘grooming’, arrested & charged for molesting a child under 12… has written for Daily Wire, The Federalist…” (DW deleted his page, wayback machine still has it) www.dailydot.com/debug/aaron-...

ICE is Gaming Google Search U.S. Immigration is Gaming Google to Create a Mirage of Mass Deportations 13,000 archived ICE press releases timestamped to 24 January 2025. "Every article was updated on the 24th ... causing the Google SEO to...rank it higher." Brilliant work @darakerr.bsky.social!

NEW: A Houston man and Jan. 6 defendant has been arrested for a child sex crime -- two weeks after he was pardoned by Trump and released from a six-year prison stint for assaulting police with bear spray and a metal whip.

An important and maddening read. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

SCOOP: Many of the pages that went missing on Friday from the CDC website on Friday have reappeared — in response to intense media coverage, backlash from the scientific community and concern for the public’s health. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/03/h...

🥲 it’s almost like that panic was about something completely different than they claimed

An unelected shadow government is conducting a hostile takeover of the federal government. DOGE is not a real government agency. DOGE has no authority to make spending decisions. DOGE has no authority to shut programs down or to ignore federal law. DOGE’s conduct cannot be allowed to stand.

The DEI caused the plane crash narrative is a distraction. The tariffs are a distraction. Whatever insane nonsense Trump spews that the media will chase like cats chasing a laser light is a distraction. The only story that counts right now is the wholesale hijacking of control of the US government.
