📣 Clarion Housing Association ordered to pay significant compensation for discriminating against tenant 📣 Ms Feeney was represented by Nick Bano of the GCC #HousingLaw Team, instructed by Serdar Celebi & Anna Jones of Islington Law Centre. Read on here 🔽 gardencourtchambers.co.uk/clarion-hous...

Regardless of who is in power, the UK gov are obsessed with building new houses, mostly on greenbelt land. Not talking about the hundreds of thousands of homes that are empty. Not talking about rebuilding on existing sites. Not talking about landlords, or 2nd homes. Not talking about social housing.

An outrage: private rents have risen by as much as 72% in just TEN years The latest figures show that private landlords are profiteering more than even from the lack of social housing - extorting tenants to the hilt www.thecanary.co/uk/news/2025...

Whenever you see anybody's plan for growth in the UK and it involves absolutely no social housing, you know who they want the benefits of growth to go to.

Sad how severely neglected social housing has gotten in the UK, either ignored by the local council or governed by housing groups that essentially make a profit off welfare slums that encase every tenant with black mold

📣 Nick Bano of the Garden Court Chambers #HousingLaw Team writes in @theguardian.com : 'England’s renters are about to gain more rights, but until then landlords may exploit weak regulation even more cruelly' 🏘️ Read on here 🔽 theguardian.com/commentisfre...

🔴A Total Eclipse of The Sun Why the refusal by the British press and politicians to touch revelations of serious criminality at The Sun tells us everything we need to know about how power really works in the UK www.adambienkov.co.uk/p/a-total-ec...

“So the stage was set for the next evolution of Big Tech – the full Matrix. Not only do these tech monopolies covertly feed off our data for energy and finance, they play back to us a tailored reality to disguise their real role” bylinetimes.com/2025/01/25/h...

This is the HQ of Avis Capital. It claims to be one of the largest companies in the UK, with £58bn in assets and 31% returns promised to investors. Except it's all a lie. Here's how regulatory failures are letting international fraudsters create massive fake UK companies.

1. The UK government’s pursuit of GDP growth at all costs is an assault on our natural wealth, which will impoverish us all. It might be able to massage the headline figures by converting the living world into money, but it does not improve our lives.🧵

No Govt has cut public spending, cut services, jobs, wages & secured economic growth. UK PM says he will be "ruthless" in cutting public spending People will spend less. Due to lack of good food, housing, healthcare, education many won't be able to work Madness leftfootforward.org/2025/01/labo...

Why is child homelessness still rising? Because the net number of social homes is still falling. That is why. It’s a political choice. Please email your MP to change that choice in the #SpendingReview this Spring using our quick & easy #Shelter tool ⬇️ campaigns.shelter.org.uk/end-child-ho...

So it turns out they spent £715 million on sending a grand total of FOUR volunteers to Rwanda. For comparison, this is more than you could expect to spend on building an entire brand new hospital in the UK

Too many UK MPs take second jobs, serve corporations, get rich. Claim it helps to serve people. Oh ... Hardly any volunteer to work for charities, hospices, food banks, housing associations ... there is no money in it. Must ban second jobs for MPs. leftfootforward.org/2025/01/mps-...

The UK’s housing costs are sucking life out of our economy youtu.be/yMB9HsJCWmg?... The UK has housing costs 44% more than in similar countries. That means instead of fueling growth and providing for children, the younger people who pay these costs are fueling growing inequality.

Farage attending the launch of a new staunch climate denial group in the UK that has taken funds from oil giant ExxonMobil ? Not particularly out of character , since Dec 2019 92% of donations to Reform UK were from fossil fuel interest groups or climate deniers , per @desmog.bsky.social .

The Housing Forum has responded to the Government's consultation on the Right to Buy. The proposed reforms, will reduce sales, so help retain social housing stock. forum/https://housingforum.org.uk/right-to-buy-consultation-response-from-the-housing-forum/

A handful of billionaires now have unprecedented control over banking, the food we eat, our healthcare, and the information we receive. Many are now currying favor with Trump to avoid accountability and maintain their power. This is what oligarchy looks like.

The Government’s own shocking data shows a staggering 97% of new patients who try to get an NHS dental appointment fail to get one We all need to back the @thebda.bsky.social in its call for urgent action to save NHS dentistry youtu.be/UtqAtGAnuC0?...

Number crunching: Hike in water bills for Southern Water customers v CEO salary. From the new Private Eye, in shops now.

In opposition, Labour rightly said that giving NHS contract to private healthcare weakens the NHS, provided a worse service and costs the tax payer more. Then private healthcare donated a ton of money to Labour. Now labour have given a huge increase in NHS contracts to private healthcare.

Jeez. Aren't you glad we voted the Tories out and ended the years of cuts and austerity 😅🤦 www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

WARNING - Labour isn't Labour anymore. Starmer and Reeves only care about installing the Tories corporate political model of governance which involves carving up the UK into patchworks of corporate sovereignties. My latest article on Substack open.substack.com/pub/european...

Rachel Reeves refused permission for the National Audit Office to investigate England's 48 SEZ's and 8 Freeports despite a damning report from the House of Commons Committee in April 2024. Next up Blackrock and Labour plan to privatise the UK. Thread

What have I been saying for the last 5 years? Deregulated SEZs and Freports are the gateways to privatising the UK. BlackRock will privatise Britain – our housing, education, health, nature and green energy – with our taxpayer money as sweetener. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Academic analysis finds that mortgaged buy-to-let investors bought houses at a discount of 4.5% compared to other buyers in England and Wales in 2014-21. The discount was less in London, and fell when higher Stamp Duty for landlords was introduced in 2016. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1...

🚨⚠️NEXT TUESDAY, your MP will debate the Renters’ Rights Bill. Without protections against soaring rents and support for reporting bad landlords, renters will remain at risk of debt and homelessness. Write your MP and DEMAND they listen to renters 👇 generationrent.eaction.online/RRBReportstage

Labour Mayor Steve Rotherham signed off with the Tories on the Liverpool SEZ and Freeport. Wirral council in crisis, it is looking to avoid issuing a Section 114 notice which is technically bankruptcy. It's like watching lemmings jump off a cliff. www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpo...

UK low- to middle-income families far poorer than OECD counterparts. UK prices 8% higher, housing cost 44% higher. Low income families - German families 21% or £2,300 a year better off; Dutch 39%. Yet no curbs on profiteering, exploitation institutionalized. www.theguardian.com/business/202...

There seem to have been a few new arrivals on Bluesky over the new year, so have updated my UK Housing starter pack to include those I've found with an interest in UK housing policy (now including the Housing Minister @matthewpennycookmp.bsky.social). go.bsky.app/VA1DV9s
