From Ashley St. Clair's court filing last night. Elon is aware of it and is fully paranoid about assassination attempts.

I've been thinking, a lot, about how the Five Eyes deals with Trump -- in particular whether they (or certain foreign hosts of Big Tech) -- can replace the spying the alliance facilitates, AND ALSO whether Trump can replace his allies w/Musk's satellites. I don't know the answer, technically, BUT

Joni Ernst cast one of two pivotal votes to let this happen.

When these inaccuracies were first found, they could be called "mistakes." When DOGE took efforts to cover them up, they can no longer be considered "mistakes."

It'd be awesome if @whitehouse.senate.gov asked Attorney General Bondi if she has issued some kind of finding that foreign donations are cool now, so long as they're covered up nicely. www.emptywheel.net/2025/02/22/p...

🧵 I went to work in Congress with a Member who was raised in South Africa and part of the anti-apartheid movement. She taught me how to optimize the power of the opposition in the House. Like the trimtab on the rudder, members can steer the ship. Here are the six R's of minority power.

You told NPR on the record you were removing stuff to comply with the executive orders. This is a lie about planned revisions. The site also removed gender identity from legal services provided. Stop gaslighting us. You erased trans people and only responded when called out.

Me: You guys are being really sexist in your attacks on Bondi, rather than focusing on the real problems with her. Response (now blocked): You're just a karen.

This is so unconscionable. Elon Musk is personally extorting Ukraine to get access to their minerals for his car batteries. Once again, Elon Musk is an existential threat to everyone on this planet. www.reuters.com/business/us-...

Hey All: Google is pulling the "automatically on for anyone over 18" bullshit with Gemini that the Dropbox did for its AI, but I can't afford to ditch Google Drive/Docs/Workspace. If you have a personal Google Account, first go to gemini.google.com/extensions and turn everything off...

Unquestionably, major policy changes, edicts and directives handed down by the new Trump administration will upend lives. But I've also been struck by the widespread efforts to erase/whitewash history. Stick with me for a pretty shocking series of events from just the past few weeks.

It's Still Not Clear Whether Elon's DOGE Boys Are Reviewing, Taking, or Altering Government Networks www.emptywheel.net/2025/02/08/i...

NEW: 22 states and DC urge Judge McConnell to enforce his TRO against Trump's funding freeze: "There is no world in which these scattershot outages, which as of this writing impact billions of dollars in federal funding across the Plaintiff States, can constitute compliance with this Court’s Order"

The Center for Renewing America—founded by Trump’s OMB Director pick Russ Vought, a top architect of Project 2025—has *explicitly* said that it wants the federal govt to “eliminate” Obamacare’s life-saving Medicaid expansion. Here are some stats on the expansion. 1/ www.cbpp.org/research/hea...

Hey all, there's a lot of litigation going on regarding trans folks. We teamed up with Free Law Project to create a bot to provide all filings in a timely manner in these cases. Give it a follow! bsky.app/profile/lgbt...

Harvard enacted a institutional neutrality principle last year after October 7th but reserved the right to make statements that about issues that affect university functions. The deafening silence in the wake of the NIH blowing a budget hole of hundreds of millions of dollars is stunning.

aging well, sadly

I think these takes are simplistic. There's something about this relationship -- I'm not precisely sure what (tho suspect it may pertain to Stephen Miller's role as interlocutor, who plays a big role in creating a false reality for Trump), but something abt this relationship is different.

The authoritarians & oligarchs benefit from us blaming eachother for the massive wealthy inequality in this country. Blame the corrupt billionaires, mega corporations, and big money in politics. Not your neighbor.

I realized today that Trump, Musk, DOGE, Vance, Miller, Vought and their many collaborators have broken so many laws already that they know they have to destroy our government and entire way of life to stay out of jail. This is all or nothing. We should respond accordingly.

Top comment on the recent NYT story on DOGE’s young aides www.nytimes.com/shared/comme...

First they came for trans people, and I did not speak out-
because I avoid 'identity politics'. Then they came for the Palestinians - but I don't do 'purity politics'. Then they came for everyone but me - but I was waiting for the midterms. Then they came for me- and I was quite shocked tbh.

My heart goes out to colleagues in STEM, and to all of higher ed right now. This admin is Not Good for us. Still, I can't help but wish folks had cared when it was the Rest of Us in the crosshairs. I can't get over the idea that many were OK with us being attacked by the far right because "DEI."

It's also complete bs. The order was issued against a party present through DOJ. It was not ex parte.

Microsoft's own research confirms something that was already pretty obvious: relying on a text generating machine to come up with answers erodes critical thinking, and is a method favoured by those who never liked doing critical thinking in the first place advait.org/files/lee_20...

“Trump is furious that his thugs can’t fulfill his promises. But those failures arise not through want of trying. Rather, those failures stem from the fact that reality in no way matches the hellhole Miller pitched…the imaginary hellhole Miller used to get voters afraid enough to vote for Trump.”

It’s weird that Harvard has a prominent professor of Constitutional law who openly, loudly advocates overthrowing the Constitution, and lies to the public about the law as a way to advance that project. Seems like a… contradiction.

Two lawyers, one Yale educated, one Harvard educated; one the VP, one a senator, suggesting that decisions made by courts aren’t legitimate if they don’t like the outcome. This is dangerous territory.

One of those racist trolls was affiliated with a child sextortion ring. But I guess Vance doesn't have to worry about HIS kids since they get secret service protection. The leopards will come for him and his family eventually.

This is critically important. When asked to PROVE the claims that Elon is spewing on Xitter, Trump had nothing. Nothing. Until they present proof, no media outlet should repeat unsubstantiated claim this is about efficiency.

lol what the fuck that is so much

If a general was planning on using the military to illegally go after US citizens in the US, yes the judge would be able to order them to stop. The military is not above the rule of law. They're setting the stage for martial law.

Again, when Carl Nichols asked DOJ for proof of the claims of fraud right wingers are making, DOJ had none. www.emptywheel.net/2025/02/08/t...

Today the @nytimes.com sought to whitewash its central role in laundering anti-trans falsehoods and turbocharging anti-trans attacks nationwide. My reporting showed that editorial leadership was aware of this depravity which is why this disingenuous piece can’t erase the scale of what they’ve done.

Any four Republican Senators could stop this at any time simply by threatening to block all action (or even caucus with the Democrats) if Trump doesn't make certain concessions. They won't, but that should be a much bigger story than whether the Democrats are doing everything that *they* can.

This case is led by five transgender youth (including two who are 18) as well as PFLAG and thousands of member families. Read more about PFLAG v. Trump here www.aclu.org/press-releas...

We're suing President Trump to protect gender-affirming care access for trans people nationwide. President Trump, see you in court.

Can he feed himself into a woodchipper instead?

an unelected billionaire storming into US agencies, installing his unqualified and unapproved lackeys, purging civil servants, seizing access to sensitive data and payments, unilaterally eliminating federal agencies: fine identifying the lackeys: illegal

seeing takes about the aid institutions and their role in imperialism. correct. If someone said "investor-owned hospitals exploit the vulnerable to benefit shareholders" I'd nod. If their followup was "and that's why I'm turning off your mom's dialysis machine" I'd...have some followup questions

Really smart thread: Make categories and replace outrage with categorization.

this could be stupid question, but if the DNC has a big war chest, what's stopping them from being like, "hey, we're going to support food banks, childcare, and healthcare programs with our money because we know the trump tariffs are going to cause widespread harm?"
