The fact that people act like this about HP and other kids books are why I try to avoid reading YA. It's hard to buy "adults enjoy YA too" when apparently they can't even be adult enough to avoid harmful stuff without being spoon fed the store brand alternative. It's just an alien type of fanbase.

We need to build some real social stigma around being afraid of cities. You don't have to like them or live there, but a politics built this strongly around watching TV and going "ewww" is embarrassing, and people should be embarrassed by it. It's like "fear of werewolves" being your top issue.

I really don't understand the stalls at craft fairs selling concrete tchotchkes. I don't understand why anyone would want to decorate their place with heavy cube shaped things painted weirdly when you could get the same things in actual pottery with varying designs a few stands away.

It's notable that they don't talk to anyone in the sciences where things like facts and accuracy matter. I also don't know how they're going to incorporate AI into those kinds of fields, because you know by AI they mean chatGPT and not a specialized model that may have some edge uses.
