Let’s also not forget Carney invited butcher MBS of Saudi Arabia to come to Canada. He didn’t come, and the day before the G7 he had a man executed over his tweets. These are the people Carney is cozying us up to.

Western countries go on and on about the Uyghurs to criticize China, but they don’t care one bit about the oppression of Muslims under Modi’s fascist, Hindu nationalist government. They just say he was democratically elected and pretend as if there’s no problem.

After the number of tech cycles they’ve watched, they should know better. They should be able to see the signs that things aren’t the way they’re presenting, but they WANT the future AI companies are selling.
They’re deeply biased, and that’s reflected in their work and their response to criticism.

it’s no wonder most of the world has had enough of lectures from hypocritical western states that have one set of rules for itself and another for everyone else

the chatbots are fucking so many people up. it’s treated as funny or cringe in most cases now, but we’re going to look back in a few years and ask how we it happen — again.
we never learn from past mistakes of buying into hype when the harms are right in front of our eyes if we care to see them.

And to be clear, even in the face of the hesitance of our leaders to take a firm stance against Israel and the fear of our media to be honest about Israeli actions in Gaza and the West Bank since Oct 7, 49% of Canadians believe Israel is committing a genocide. They can see it with their own eyes.

Even at Carney’s G7 press conference, he was peppered with questions about Ukraine and the communique about it, but nothing about Israel/Palestine, even as Israel just slaughtered another 59 Palestinians as they sought food while the world is distracted by the missile exchanges.

I do think we should call it out for what it is: racism. That's reflected not just in how our politicians talk about Ukrainians compared to Palestinians, but also how so much of Canadian media report on the two situations so very differently.

If Israel and its Western backers were really concerned about stability in the Middle East, they would ensure Palestinians have a state on 1967 borders, as was agreed decades ago. But instead Israel would prefer to continue its apartheid system with the goal of achieving Greater Israel.

It’s wild to hear Carney say Iran is the chief source of regional instability in the Middle East when Israel is carrying out a genocide, its leaders have been charged with war crimes, and it’s regularly attacking its neighbours and countries even further afield.

The rollout of AI in the 2010s didn’t destroy a ton of jobs as the industry got us all to believe. But it did enable the algorithmic management best exemplified by the Uber model and Amazon warehouses that constrained the power of workers and increased the authority of bosses.
