And if you don't shut it down they'll shut down the parts they don't want anyway. Use the leverage you have! Don't just hand it over!
Be loud about why the shutdown is happening in public! Be louder than them! We need you to make noise now NOT sit in silence!

The only reason it would be a distraction is cause you all aren't taking advantage of it to stop him! The Republicans in the senate are playing you, they've been playing Democrats in Congress for years. This was a rare moment where YOU had leverage, where YOU had something THEY wanted and you caved.
