His primary school championed inclusion, highlighting his strengths while adapting to his needs. By Year 6, he was academically at a Year 2 level, unable to tackle SATs, a hurdle we, with the school, opted to bypass.

Milestones unfolded gradually: potty training at nearly six, repeating Year 1 in a mainstream primary school with an autism resource base (a choice we made as he is a summer born child who was accessing learning well below expected), speaking at around eight, and mastering basic instructions.
