NEW: LGBT+ people in Scotland are 'living in fear after being betrayed by politicians', MSPs told

Businesses from all over Scotland are coming together to sign this letter to the First Minister following the Supreme Court Ruling. If you are a business or enterprise, you can sign it here too and show your support for the trans community. lettertothefm.notion.site/Letter-to-th...

In these times of hostility against LGBTQ+ people, let's remember that it doesn't have to be this way. Just nine years ago, this was the position. I was there, and it felt like an astonishing celebration of progress. We got there before. We can get back there again. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scot...

This reads like more evidence that the interim EHRC guidance was drawn up by Kishwer Falkner and cronies, without input from neutral expert staffers. www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

UK drops six more places on the ILGA-Europe #RainbowMap to now lie at 22nd, an outlier in Western Europe. The only country to fall further is Orbán's Hungary. Ten years ago the UK was first on this list. Only six years ago it was third. "A co-ordinated global backlash aimed at erasing LGBTI rights."

Pretty appalling that Cambridge University associate professor James Orr is regurgitating conspiracist nonsense from Maga fanatics Elon Musk and J.D Vance without bothering to check if it’s true.

Wild how invested the BBC is in spreading legal misinformation about the For (Some) Women Scotland decision. Whoever said 'A lie is halfway round the world before the truth has got its boots on' can't have imagined it would one day be a descripton of the BBC.

My response to the decision of Glasgow Pride to suspend participation by political parties. In short, the culture war against our community has gone on far too long, and needs to end.

I'm really pleased to see the majority of MSPs vote to take this Bill forward to the next stage. But there's still a lot of work to do, making amendments to address concerns and make sure we have as strong a bill as possible and keep a majority together at stage 3.

Four years ago we saw a community unite to peacefully protect their neighbours from detention. This week we saw Prime Minister Keir Starmer mimicking Enoch Powell with speeches that vilify and scapegoat. Scotland must be the party of Kenmure Street, not Downing Street.

NEW: We asked the trans community how they have been affected after the Supreme Court ripped up the Equality Act. The response has been chilling, writes @jessothomson.co.uk: goodlaw.social/b5hx

Nobody should be facing this.

Rents are skyrocketing across Scotland. Greens have lodged proposals to cap rent increases, protect renters from evictions, and create new tenants' rights. 📊78% of Scots back our proposals to end rip-off rents!

"I work at Holyrood - how the new toilets policy affects me" 👇 "As far as I know, I am the only transgender person in the entire staff block. It feels personal because it is." ✍️ Great piece from Dylan Hamilton www.thenational.scot/politics/251...

Genuinely shocked how far and fast the Conservative Party has fallen on climate change. They’re now at the accusing climate scientists of ‘bias’ and considering quitting the Paris Agreement stage of things. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

That moment when you're invited to provide evidence for your false claims - and can't... "He added: 'There’s quite a few scientists that say we don’t need to get to net zero by 2050.' Bowie and his office were unable to name such scientists when pressed."

🚆Commuting by train is about to get cheaper! 🟢Greens, trade unions, and workers campaigned to scrap peak rail fares. Now they are set to be removed on September 1st!

NEW: Major intervention in the UK Government's immigration crackdown from the chief of Scottish Care In damning comments, Donald MacAskill says Keir Starmer's language has "echoes of Enoch Powell at his worst" www.thenational.scot/news/2515631...

Yet another Keir Starmer promise has been broken. What he is proposing is cruel and divisive and will only undermine our public services. You can't beat the far right by pandering to them or by throwing migrant workers and communities under the bus.

The "open borders" bit is bilge too - obviously there was no unlimited right for anyone to come and live in the UK, otherwise we wouldn't have had North Sea deaths, immigration detention, migrant barges etc etc. This is just far right rhetoric reheated

Lovely to hear from the Prime Minister that the historical policies which allowed my Mum to remain in the UK after studying here, thus enabling my existence, was a “squalid experiment in open borders”.

Starmer's anti-immigrant speech today wasn't just a moral and political embarrassment. It was also an intellectual embarrassment. inews.co.uk/opinion/star...

3 months ago, I wrote this about centrist parties aping the far right, and how it's not just immoral, but suicidal. This is not secret knowledge. It's the most reliable effect in world politics. It's watching 40 guys getting killed by the same gorilla, one by one, and stepping up to take your turn.

This has all happened so many times, it's amazing that centrist governments still think it's worth trying. Labour are telling voters that Farage is right about immigration, when they should be challenging his lies and his racism head on.

"All I want to do at work is continue assisting constituents who need help. Now, instead of devoting all my energy to that, I will be worrying about how long I can avoid using the toilet for." Solidarity with Dylan. archive.ph/pDBPE www.thenational.scot/politics/251...

We launched the @scottishgreens.org by-election campaign today in a *very* sunny Stonehouse. Joined by @gillianmacmsp.bsky.social & @patrickharvie.bsky.social.

I can't make the @republicstaff.bsky.social/ @ourrepublic.scot events to mark #RepublicDay, but I am tabling proposals in Parliament to take away the King's personal exemption from paying property taxes in Scotland! 👑🗑️

Vast inherited wealth while others live in poverty is unjustified. Building it into a nation's constitution is even worse. There should be no place in a democracy for the power of the monarchy.

Why should wealthier people get the privilege of a second home when it comes at the expense of those who can’t even get their first? Final part of my miniseries on tackling the housing crisis in Scotland using our tax powers. rossgreer.beehiiv.com/p/pt-3-one-f...

Every aspect which is so far being publicised, a standard tactic by politicians prior to formerly launching anything, of Labour's immigration white paper continues to demonstrate this government's lack of knowledge about immigration in general, and knee jerk policies. 1/ www.bbc.com/news/article...

Dear legal community: we are at the moment 19 signatures short of reaching 200 signatures to the letter on behalf of the legal community in light of For Women Scotland & the EHRC interpretation of it. If you know anyone who would sign but hasn't yet - nudge them, please!

Israel has blocked all international aid into Gaza for more than nine weeks now The UN says Gaza is experiencing “probably the worst humanitarian situation ever seen throughout the war." 📉👇for @bloomberg.com

Scotland deserves better. As a self-governing country, we could reconnect with Europe to build strong ties again. With the creep of fascism around the world and serious climate breakdown, the case for Scotland to reconnect with the EU grows stronger every day.

I share the concern that this decision is "rushed, will be unworkable, and will exclude trans people". I know how disturbing this announcement has been for many people working at Parliament. I will be raising these concerns in solidarity with @scottishtrans.bsky.social and everyone affected.

NEW: As part of our Donald Trump series we look back at what happened when the US president visited the Scottish Parliament 🗣️ 'The idea that he was an expert witness on renewable energy is laughable'

Some rare good news for trans people – the transphobic amendment to the Data Bill was defeated by a large margin. It would have forced trans people to out themselves virtually daily, putting people's safety and dignity at risk, so it's great to see MPs reject it comprehensively.

In exactly one year Scotland will head to the polls to decide the future of our country. It will be our chance to build a fairer, greener Scotland that takes climate action seriously, invests in public services, and taxes the rich. Be a part of it. 👇

TANK vs TESLA "We've crushed fascism before and we'll crush it again" - WW2 veteran Ken, 98, in the tank

This Starmer quote on Churchill is utterly dreadful. We give Churchill a lot of credit in Origin Story, but he was unquestionably racist & imperialist & responsible for the Bengal famine. Many British people dislike him for entirely justifiable reasons. Questioning their decency is outrageous.

If we want people to switch to public transport, we need permanently low fares, not constantly changing policies. It's great that peak rail fares are gone for good, after too much SNP dithering. Let's not repeat the mistake with bus fares - skip the pilot phase, and just cap fares everywhere!

Are you an ally who wants to speak up for trans people? The Supreme Court ruling has impacts across Britain – which is why we’ve teamed up with our pals @transactualuk.bsky.social to make sure you can use it in England too. 🎉Massive Green win for Scotland! Train fares are about to get cheaper! In 2023, Greens scrapped peak fares, but the SNP brought them back last year. Now, following pressure from Green MSPs, trade unions and thousands of constituents, the SNP have backed our calls! 💚🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

🚨 BREAKING: From September 1st peak rail fares will be scrapped for good in Scotland! 🟢2023: Greens scrap peak rail fares. 🟡2024: SNP bring them back 🟡2024: thousands join Green and trade union calls for the SNP to reverse their decision 🟢2025: SNP reverse their decision
