Your use of the term “person” is rather charitable (IMO)

Police no longer police traffic in #Ottawa
(and, as an aside, we’re spending far too much time in Spain this winter and this photo makes Ottawa appear even uglier than ever - far, far, far too much clutter of lights, signs and overhead wires)

Five stars for correct use of the term “windrow”

I will never understand #Ottawa’s reluctance to tow
Was sitting on a King St patio in Toronto a number of years ago and the moment the “No Stopping/Parking” restrictions kicked in there was an enforcement officer and a line of tow trucks
Ticket - immediately tow
Ticket - immediately tow

Everyone gets one paintball gun with three shots (lifetime allocation)
Any vehicle that accumulates three marks gets pulled from the road
You could use all three at once, or choose to spread them out
Once you’ve used your three, you’re done

Thanks for sharing this Kevin
He was grandfather to friends of our kids and we met him a few times
We’d moved away a few years before his death and were unaware that this had happened
Very nice that they re-dedicated the library in his honour

Just so I’m clear … was the OP suggesting that his 89 year-old mother (with dementia) and/or his 90+ year-old father should still drive?

The city wastes far too much money on signs
They’re visual clutter and drivers don’t pay attention to them anyways
No surprise that The Five Man Electrical Band was from Ottawa

Indeed we do (need to do it)
I’m pretty sure there are more than a few commercial cannabis growers that could/should pivot

At no time since privatization in ‘96 have I ever thought we should go back to being federal employees

The company now looks to partner with other ANS technology companies for systems integration
I was recently in Hong Kong teaching airport controllers there how to use a new data management system that integrates a safety net system with NAV’s EXCDS flight data management software

The biggest (most recent) technology investment was partnering in the Aireon space-based ADS-B system
This extended surveillance into the far north and North Atlantic - allowing for more efficient operations (reduced separation requirements - more fuel-efficient routings)

That was one of the biggest changes that came from privatization - technology projects that had languished under government funding constraints were *finally* completed
And the company went on to sell that technology to other ANSPs … generating revenue that could be re-invested in the service

Me too (Canadian)
Privatization (NAV CANADA) was the best thing that happened
Now, if we could only get the engineers to just slow down a bit with their chucking of new technologies directly into the operation 😉

About the only control *we* have is where to spend our hard-earned dollars … and to the best of my ability, none will be going south of the 49th
I know that any politician in Canada that would dare make those kind of remarks would find CATCA, ATSAC, 1016, and IBEW down their throats in a heartbeat

This being my field for the past 45 years, I offer:
- all the pieces of the two aircraft can be recovered and investigators *will* determine the cause;
- freezing the hiring/training of new controllers is *never* a smart move because it takes *years* to produce new licenses.

The current $32M funding gap is in the 2025 budget
The money announced yesterday doesn’t start flowing til 2026 (provided the next government doesn’t cancel it)
