It is outrageous that Canada has not suspended our free trade agreement with Israel in response to the ongoing war crimes committed against the Palestinian population. Canada should not have free trade agreements with nations committing genocide.

The Israeli military said suspects had deviated "from the designated access routes" outside an aid center in Gaza so they had to open fire into a crowd of civilians and kill Palestinians for the third day in a row www.bbc.com/news/article...

My new article is up, online at DHQ! "Unjust Readings: Against the New New Criticism." Rolls off the tongue! www.digitalhumanities.org/dhq/vol/19/1...

This is going to be fun. Come one, come all. Even the mutterers. Especially the mutterers.

CSDH is a few days away! We are currently looking for volunteer evaluators for the Ian Lancashire Student Promise Award. Evaluators will volunteer for a talk, listen to the graduate student work, and submit their grades. Please sign up below: docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

I've written up an overview of our DH@Guelph Summer Workshop last week, Making: A Feminist Praxis. Check it out and let me know your thoughts! 👇 @antimony27.bsky.social #DHMakes #DHatGuelph kieraobbard.ca/2025/05/21/m...

Children are being starved to death in Gaza. The Labour government said nothing until the IDF shot at UK diplomats. And yet the Brits target an Irish group for "terrorism" for speaking up. i may have some issues with Kneecap's actions but I will defend Irish artists over spineless British leaders.

"For me, the answer now lies in refusal, the withdrawal of participation from systems that require dishonesty as the price of belonging." Today I am resigning from the National Science Board and the Library of Congress Scholars Council. I wrote about my decision in TIME. time.com/7285045/resi...

Israel is committing mass crimes against humanity aided and abetted by the refusal of the west to say anything. Our refusal to call out the actions of a war crimes state makes this our genocide. www.independent.co.uk/news/world/m...

Imagine being a nation so criminal and violent that you would bomb an unarmed, civilian vessel bringing supplies to the survivors in a devastated war zone.

Proofs!

Images of John Norton's newly discovered 'first' journal (of his travels to England). Pity the poor transcribers...

That’s right we’re hiring two (2) learning & curriculum support librarians. It could be you!

"devolving"

What does DH look like today? What a question, where to even begin! But Kelly Baker Josephs and I want you to help us find out. We are co-editing the next general volume in the Debates in Digital Humanities series from @uminnpress.bsky.social! Cfp below. Abstracts are due May 25.

Jagmeet Singh is one of the most disappointing NDP leaders I've ever seen. Some style, zero substance as he drives the party into complete irrelevance. Charlie Angus would've been a far better leader.

Israel is a criminal terror state. They steal land, execute innocent people, and commit war crimes. To not speak out against these atrocities is to be complicit in genocide against the Palestinian people. 🇵🇸 www.theguardian.com/world/2025/a...

The long crisis in the humanities is now converging with much larger structural crises -- to put it mildly -- in US higher ed. Announcing this cfp the day after the NEH has been effectively shut down is painful. We are determined to showcase what you all are doing anyway to move the field forward.

This is a great opportunity to work in a dynamic digital humanities research environment! Come and join us in Guelph!

Unidentified men grabbing someone off the street and putting her in a car because she wrote an op-Ed. This as flatly authoritarian as anything we’ve seen in this country in a very long time.

I truly cannot overstate just how brilliant the Cindy Lee record is. Buy it on vinyl, buy it on Bandcamp. It is absolutely amazing: cindylee.bandcamp.com/album/diamon...

Has the @modernlanguage.bsky.social said anything about the threats to academic freedom to Columbia and other institutions coming from the morons in the white house?

Reminder to apply for this opportunity for a creative writer to work at The University of Guelph. Join us!

The conservative attack on freedom of thought and speech, in the form of restricting funding to universities, is a new form of McCarthyism. For all their complaint of cancel culture, it turns out conservatives are quick to cancel dissenting views whenever they can.

I taught in an engineering education program for years where ideas of history, power, and agency were ignored in favour of a technocratic education of making / breaking / profiting. You see the effects of this paucity of education playing out among the technocrats who want to be kings.

Certified bootlicker and self-abaser JD Vance, who still pretends that Trump won the 2020 election, after comparing him to Hitler, now thinks he's qualified to lecture Europe about democracy. This is like Trump lecturing on fidelity or proper levels of spray tan. 💩

Looking forward to chatting tomorrow with @paulbarrett1.bsky.social and Sarah Roger about their collection Future Horizons: Canadian Digital Humanities at @torontomet.bsky.social’s Centre for Digital Humanities! Details here: cdh.rula.info/newsletter/
