Brian Eno's "Ambient 1" only sold 10,000 copies, but everyone who bought it went on to start an airport.

A very powerful #climate opinion piece by Tim Winton on disastrous global warming driven bleaching of Ningaloo Reef - calling out the support of @walabor.bsky.social govt. for increased greenhouse emissions from Woodside’s LNG Burrup Hub operations through 2070. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Eggs are now so expensive they’re smuggling them like fentanyl.

When it comes to climate change I blame the victim.

RIP Gwen MacRae 🙏

Never forget. Dutton banned diversity morning teas in the defence department. www.themandarin.com.au/171946-email...

Donald Trump says Canada has no right to exist. I take the threat seriously. With our sovereignty on the table I support a national discussion on next steps. But CBC thinks it would be fun to have an American DJ co-host whether we should exist as a nation. Fuck that @ianhanomansing.bsky.social

Spent all day trying to work on my book about creepy geological stuff in the central highlands and this chapter on snakes being spooky and whatnot has been dragged hugely off course by OH MY GOD HOW CORRUPT WAS THE COLONY OF VICTORIA IN THE 1860S

The Australien Government has made an ad to announce the 2025 election, and it's surprisingly honest and informative. #auspol

Hmmm, I wonder why the reporter did not mention the other elephant in the room - students are WORKING nearly full time hours to afford to go to university, so of course they can’t get to campus at set times. www.theguardian.com/australia-ne... @australia.theguardian.com

“If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.” A classic quote from Malcolm X, who was assassinated 60 years ago today.

Preferential voting is such a good idea; I don't know why more countries don't adopt it. You can vote for a candidate with the best policies, even if it is unlikely they will get elected, and then give it to the best of the alternatives so you don't "waste your vote."

Without putting too fine a point on it, this is the same government department that said, through its decision-maker, that it believed these men and compensated them for abuse. Imagine how this makes them feel.

“These marine heatwaves are becoming more frequent and more intense. Climate scientists predicted this, politicians and fossil fuel barrackers dismissed their warnings…..”. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

"I won't give ongoing commentary on everything that Donald Trump says" But Albanese can no longer pretend that an upending of US foreign policy doesn't matter to Australia. #AUKUS was a dangerous and costly folly before Trump. Now it's catastrophic. #auspol www.abc.net.au/news/2025-02...

Side note. There are eight members of the joint chiefs. the chair is black. the CNO (navy) is a woman. the other six are white guys. chair and the cno got fired tonight.

Dept of Social Services disclosed private legal letters with the Catholic Church which were then leaked to The Australian newspaper and used in concert to try and silence survivors of abuse by a senior Church member. Yeah, it's nuts. But they admitted it. www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/news/law-cri...

"a small cohort of people make enormous, often untaxed, profits from oil, gas and coal. These folks, and the political leaders who protect their commercial interests...are the people who stand in the way of our safety." - Tim Winton #environment #auspol www.theguardian.com/environment/...

The University Of Cincinnati is replacing all of it's restroom signs with ones that designate use to only biological sex.

Just saw a post - Windows is terrible but don't dare suggest Linux. And thinking this parallels preferred party is terrible but don't dare suggest I change. We invest our loyalty and expect it to be returned but refuse to abandon that original decision, mostly because it requires that we think

A Four Corners program has helped reposition the spotlight away from neo-Fascist cult groups' salacious media stunts and onto their child grooming tactics Four Corners shifts spotlight to Neo-Nazi cult tactics endangering children @tomtanuki.bsky.social

Not long after I submitted my application to the national redress scheme I received a phone call from the local police where the abuse occurred. The Catholic church had reported my application to police after the government provided my application to the church.

Remember all those platitudes after the child abuse Royal Commission about how we as a society were going to treat victim-survivors of institutional abuse better? Read Rick Morton in The Saturday Paper today. I shake my head in utter disbelief. www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/news/law-cri...

It’s fun that “genocide fatigue” is now a thing.

So according to the Shadow Attorney General Michaelia Cash, if Peter Dutton is elected, his To Do List includes pardoning convicted criminals who attacked police, pulling out of our Paris Climate commitment, invading Gaza & backing murderous dictator Vladimir Putin. #auspol

If you are one of Australia’s most prominent influencers turned Labor apologist and the AEC is fact checking your Instagram stories, it’s probably a good time to take a beat and reassess what you’re trying to do

Maybe start taking this seriously

It's unbelievable. Scarborough gas project and it's 878 millions tonnes of pollution just got approved. While the world and Australia are on the precipice of catastrophic climate change, this is beyond reckless.
